[Ramona Shelburne] The Sixers have been “operating” with the intention of acquiring players into the team’s potential cap space next offseason

“It is a risky strategy, and Joel Embiid knows where their strategy is… but they’ve got to pull it off.”

So essentially this season is a gap year.

  1. Literally entirely because of the Tobias contract. Just a nuke of a contract.

Curious what happens with James in the next few months.

At least we are getting somewhat honest reporting of the obvious.

  2. We’ve seen before that “star hunting” is a tough road to plow for the Sixers, even with Embiid as a lure. We could miss completely like we did with legit max players like Kawhi, LeBron, Paul George etc. We could land one for the short term like Jimmy and James, or we could overpay for solid guys like Harris and JJ.

Hopefully we can thread the needle and get a good player, on a reasonable contract, that’s a good fit. It’s just proven to be easier said then done.
