The Winnipeg Jet Hockey Club announced today they have agreed to terms with both forward Mark Scheifele and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on identical seven-year contract extensions with an average annual value of $8,500,000. Both of their seven-year contract extensions will begin in the 2024-25 season.

  4. While the last ~2 years of those contracts might be rough, that seems a fair price to pay for our competitive window now extending for another 4-5 years. Hyped!

    Edit: I will say, after they gave the C to Lowry, I kinda expected Scheif to leave as he was being built up as the successor to Wheels, but his play and attitude over the past 3 seasons kinda derailed that. Happy he’s stuck around regardless

    That 55 contract may not age the best…but its far from the worst contract. Regardless, I’m glad we aren’t losing these guys for nothing.

  48. It would be a nice twist if near the end of his contract as his age catches up to him, he switches up his game and becomes and strong, defensive center.

  49. Great deal for Helebuyck and the Jets. Even if he only plays 4-5 of this deal, it’s still awesome. Huge distraction removed!

    Scheifele is definitely worth $8.5M for offense, but the coaches absolutely have to hold his feet to the fire and make him play both ends of the ice. The advance stats do not lie and Schiefs has 5 straight seasons with a lower Even Strength xGF than xGA. He just needs to focus on the other side of the puck, he clearly has the goal scoring part figured out!
