  1. These stats need to be normalized for the eras they were played in. The rules and coaching advancements for 2023 are way different from 2001 and even more different from 1980.

That being said, a 9.3 y/a with zero picks, even in 2023 is absolutely absurd. Particularly since he’s gotten that mark with a barrage of high level throws. Dude’s the real deal but it’s just hard to understand the context when you just pluck 5 almost random games from 2 cherry picked players from 3 disparate eras.

  2. I know we should temper our expectations with all the various caveats. But no….shoot this shit right into my fucking veins!!

  3. I think this is unfair to Brady and Montana coz they played in less pass happy eras. I will say though that Purdy is probably better at 23 than Joe was..it sounds like a hot take but the Joe Montana people remember was from 1981-onwards..he was 25 in 81 and in his third season.

Purdy is 23..soon to be 24 and just 12 games into his career in the same system Joe operated. I will say though that Purdy is yet to do a “Comeback” but that’s because he is insanely consistennt on a per play basis and our defense is crazy good.

My fav Purdy stat is that he is #1 in passer rating ( 122.5) for ANY QB through 10 starts..ahead of Mahomes, Herbert, Rodgers and Warner..who all played in pass friendly schemes too…and he has has the fewest INTs of those guys too.

  4. Well if I didn’t feel old yet today, knowing Brady and Montana’s second years are closer together and Purdy and Brady’s certainly makes me feel it.
