  1. Leafs won a shootout. Bringing our record since 2006 to like 10 wins and 1000 losses.

No meme losses when Auston scores 3+ in a season opener is cool

  2. I cannot believe we actually won that game. I’m used to the Habs getting crazy miracle wins against us, nice to be on the other side of it for once 🙂

  3. Might have been one of the opening night games ive seen. Let’s go, hockey’s back baby! BTW I think the new goal song slaps, brings some new energy. Just wait till that songs blasts during the playoffs

  4. There was a lot to be worried about in this game.

But we got a Leafs win and a Matty hatty. I’ll take it!

  5. That’s the most opening ass night victory I’ve ever seen. Sloppy as fuck and high scoring. But I’ll take it.

  6. Best win possible montreals tank is hurt by a loser point and we get the W with 2 points

  7. If you don’t like that game, you don’t like Toronto Maple Leafs hockey!

Related: I do not like Toronto Maple Leafs hockey.

  8. i swear to god it’s always a nail-biting first game of the season vs the habs lol

thanks auston for bailing us out xoxo

  9. Matthew’s on pace for a casual 246 goals, and leafs on pace to go 82-0

    This is the year.

  10. As much as people wanna blame Keefe, I don’t think it’s on him for being so close. Not his fault he has guys tripping on themselves and missing passes they should never miss. Plus, he had some good calls on pulling goalie early

  11. That’s got to go down as one of the best MTL-TOR games of recent memory. What a trip. Felt like a playoff game on opening night. GLG!

  12. I can’t believe they pulled the goalie with over 4 min left and it worked…twice. What a roller coaster.

  13. tough first game for Minten and Knies, hope it was just nerves and they can work things out. First week of hockey is always crazy with bad defence, tonight was no exception, lol.

  14. Honestly fuck Montreal. I don’t care about rivalry, I’d love to see that team suffer for an eternity. We NEVER have easy games, I’d be SO content to have a divisional punching bag wearing a sideways toilet seat across their chest.

  15. Come home 2-0
Habs score – turn it off

Turn back on to see it was called back – watch

Habs go up 5-3 – turn it off

Remember its the leafs – turn back on

Happy I tuned in for this roller coaster

  16. Look, Samsonov didn’t have it tonight. But you know what the Leafs didn’t do? They didn’t let the foot off the gas pedal all night.

This wasn’t 40 minutes of coasting then the Leafs try to make it up with 5 minutes left. The Leafs played hard all night, looked good, and Sammy had an off night. Big deal, off nights happen.

I’m just more impressed with the full effort. The Leafs looked like the better team. Montreal scores 2 goals off Leaf players tripping on their own skates. Just shit happens.

And you get it to OT, and Sammy does what he needs to do to win.

Hopefully this sets the tone. The Leafs know right off the bat they’re never out of any game. Hopefully that encourages the 60 minute effort all night.

  17. Fun game …. But man Sammy looked scary between the pipes, he looked completely out of sorts, like a beer leaguer getting called up

  18. Not concerned in the slightest by this game, in fact it’s quite the opposite.

We bossed the majority of that game and looked dangerous. You can tell there’s still some gelling that needs to happen and definite areas of improvement all over the ice but it was good in general.

Samsonov won’t play that poorly every game and the defence will tighten up as the season goes on (happens every year).

Great in game changes by Keefe too.

    Happy days!

  19. Every morning as soon as I open my eyes I thank god that Auston Matthews is a Toronto maple leaf.

  20. 2 comments.
The winning goal is a non goal. This is bull. If the final score is 1 to 0 in a shoot out and nobody is credited with a goal why bother. Flip a coin.
Matthews has 12 goals in 8 season openers… Actually in 7 because he missed a few games after his hand surgery. What an incredible stat

  22. Not a pretty game but some bright spots.

First line looked good. There’s going to be an adjustment period but even as the game went on it felt like they were figuring each other out.

    Nylander continues to be sick.

Klingberg was an adventure at times but the puck moving ability was on display. I think McCabe needs to calm down a bit. It felt like he was trying to do too much which is not going to work if he’s supposed to be the “safe” guy on that pair.
