Sixers Want To Flip Clippers Assests For Another All-Star Guard

While speaking on NBA Today, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski said the Philadelphia 76ers have a bigger plan in mind, should they trade James Harden. If the Sixers are able to trade Harden to the LA Clippers, they’ll look to make a subsequent deal using the assets they get for Harden.

“Daryl Morey’s motivation is whatever he gets from the Clippers, he wants to be able to flip that for another All-Star level guard that he could replace James Harden with,” Wojnarowski said.

Because the asking price for another All-Star would be so high right now, it “may be slow going and well into the season” before a Harden trade comes together, per Wojnarowski.

  1. Sure, that sounds great.

But if they just want to flip the Clippers assets…wouldn’t the Clippers be able to able to go after that guard too? And not have to worry about a flakey Harden re-signing this summer?

Who is this All-Star guard that’s available? Lavine?

  2. Are the Clippers “assets” even good enough for an All-Star caliber player? Harden is a special case for the Clippers and around the league

  3. Looking at the all-star rosters the last three years, the only two players that seem reasonahly likely to be available are Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.

MAYBE if something totally crazy or unexpected happens (like a trade request), Trae Young.

There’s been a lot of rumors of LaVine being on the block for the Bulls. That’s gotta be the leading contender for a trade here.

  4. Does it mention this offseason? Next offseason the Sixers will have their 24 1st, 29 1st, 31 1st, and whatever assets they get from a Harden deal to trade (let’s say 2 more firsts). That should be plenty to get involved in a deal for someone like Donovan Mitchell who will be expiring at that point

  5. Why not just take the assets trade now, then work on the followup trade, instead of waiting for the second trade to materialize before getting rid of Harden? I imagine there’s a limit to how long Harden is willing to play the good soldier, and you’d give the team more time to learn how to play in Nurse’s offense without Harden there. Maxey could probably use more time as the lead guard with the starting unit.

  6. Here’s my guess.. they want clippers assets to get Lavine and anunoby.

Could flip Tobias and two clippers firsts for Lavine. This would allow bulls to completely get off the Lavine contract and get two firsts

Then flip Mann (if we get him) and sixers first and a pick swap and maybe trade Melton to a third team for another first for anunoby. I know the raptors wanted Mann last year in the Fred van vleet trade talks last year

  7. I feel like Morey wants to see how the Luka situation plays out. Pretty sure we’ll be able to trade 3(?) of our firsts after this year, and if we collect 2 unprotected firsts from clippers, we could package 5 firsts and Maxey if the mavericks go south. If Mavs are gonna trade him at any point, it would be when he has 2 years left on contract.

  8. Get Powell, Mann and a 1st, at the deadline flip Tobias expiring and the 1st for Jerami Grant (doesn’t fit Portland timeline, signed when Dame situation was in limbo, and they’re not gonna be able to keep Shaedon unless they let Grant walk). Maxey-Powell-Oubre-Grant-Embiid is a heck of an offensive lineup
