[Milliken] @JimBowdenGM has the Red Sox on his list of 5 teams that could try and make a move for Juan Soto this offseason. He proposes a package of Alex Verdugo, Tanner Houck, Miguel Bleis, and Luis Perales. Yankees, Mariners, Giants, and Guardians (?) are the 4 other teams

It’ll definitely take a little more than what’s proposed, but tbh I think it makes a lot of sense. He’s only 24, would give the team a superstar name and some buzz in the city, provides a legit OF upgrade, balances the lineup, and because he’s a FA after next season his trade price wouldn’t be massive. Of course you’d have to pay him a ton after 2024, but they would then not extend Verdugo (he’s probably traded) and some other names like Chris Sale, etc. come off the payroll after 2024. It shouldn’t keep you from signing and/or trading for 2 star SPs this offseason (Yamamoto/Snell/Nola/Burnes-types). We already reset the luxury tax
I agree that it likely takes more than Bowden’s proposal but if you can get Soto for those 4? You do it in a fucking half a heartbeat.
Request a time frame to work out an extension, if he signs one, I’m all for a trade.
I would make that trade without blinking
I’m sure Jim Bowden would take that trade…
If you can secure an extension then that’s an amazing trade. Bleis is the only real value there and he’s obviously no sure lock MLBer.
Not a bad package if they’ll accept it, but Soto was terrible at RF. Unless we platoon him with Yoshida at LF/DH, I don’t know where he fits.
Done!
I seriously doubt we put together a trade package for a star position player this offseason, but if we do it should be for Luis Robert. Robert addresses our needs way better than Soto. He’s right-handed, has four years of control, and would actually improve our defense.
Yes, it would take a lot more that this package, but so would Soto lol. And who knows, the White Sox aren’t exactly the most functional org, maybe we fleece them.
Soto is arbitration eligible after next year. Should of just paid Mookie.
FFS we need pitching!
Please do that. I’ll miss houck for a few minutes.
