The Red Sox seem to be hearing, ‘No thanks,’ from a lot of prospective candidates – The Boston Globe

According to well-sourced, hard-working baseball scribes, Mike Hazen (D-Backs), Amiel Sawdaye (D-Backs), Brandon Gomes (Dodgers), Sam Fuld (Phillies), Derek Falvey (Twins), Michael Hill (Marlins), Jon Daniels (Rays, Rangers), and Raquel Ferreira (Red Sox) are among those not interested in becoming the next head of baseball operations for the Boston Red Sox.

It makes one think that maybe this job’s not as great as the Sox think it is.

In this spirit, I’ve done a little recon of my own and discovered things are actually worse than they appear.

It turns out that the list of those not interested in replacing Chaim Bloom is quite a bit longer.
Representative George Santos also said no to the Sox. As did Matt Patricia, Mike Lindell, Ime Udoka, Adam Gase, J.T. Watkins, Jimmy “Hotfingers” McNally, Keyser Soze, Sam Bankman-Fried, Ed Davis, Judge Richard Berman, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, plus Peter Gammons.

Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy promised that the search for Bloom’s replacement would be “robust.”

Swell. But who knew it would be this hard to find qualified folks interested in taking over the baseball operation of the once-vaunted Boston Red Sox?

Every day, it seems, we get a report of another prospective candidate who told the Sox, “I’m good. No thanks.”

  2. Shaugnessy is a fuckin’ chode. “Haha Red Sox are stupid pop culture/current even name salad haha.”

  3. Gomes and Fuld seem to be the only misses. Hazen and the Twins CBOs have lifetime job security so no surprise they declined. I don’t feel like Hill and Daniels were major losses, their resumes were meh. Promote Romero and make Breslow GM.

  4. Just checking in to say that I’m not concerned about this. It’s clear that the red sox upset the boys club by firing someone as well liked and respected at Chaim Bloom, which I don’t really care about at all. They had to do what they felt was right for the team.

Also, there are plenty of capable people, I don’t think that the most popular names are necessarily the best. Making them perform a comprehensive search could be a blessing in disguise.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like FSG, but I don’t get dunking on them for this issue.

  5. Well I mean look how bad ownership has screwed the pooch since the best team on paper in 2018.

Sprinkle in how they ended things with bloom and who’s actually surprised?

  6. Of course they’re not interested, we’ve burned through so many gm’s at the first sign of distress

  7. You reap what you sow. Personally I’m enjoying the shitshow. That’s what management gets for being aloof, out of touch, and absent.

  8. Anyone who didn’t see this coming wasn’t paying attention. This was a big reason a lot of fans didn’t want to fire Bloom.
