  1. So far with Pitcher, Catcher and First Base announced, we have a nominee for the first two (Berrios and Kirk).

Winners will be announced November 5th.

Update: We now also have nominees Chapman and Varsho.

  2. This has got to be Berríos’ award, he’s been incredible at fielding his position all year and the stats back that up.

  3. **Blue Jays Nominees:**

    – SP: Jose Berrios
    – C: Alejandro Kirk
    – 3B: Matt Chapman
    – LF: Daulton Varsho
    – CF: Kevin Kiermaier

    **Former Blue Jays Nominees:**

    – SP: Taijuan Walker PHI
    – C: Gabriel Moreno ARI
    – 2B: Marcus Semien TEX
    – RF: Lane Thomas WSH

The Toronto Blue Jays tie the Texas Rangers with 5 total nominations.

  4. DAULTON should be a slam dunk winner but I don’t believe he will be due to him playing a significant time in CF . That may have a negative impact on his chances.

  5. Interesting that Grienke isn’t a pitcher finalist when he still has the stats to back it up.

I think Chapman and KK are easy winners.

Berrios likely the favourite as well, though pitcher is a crapshoot it’s hard to say for sure. DRS also likes him better than the other nominees.

I doubt Kirk wins because they favour good hitters too, but he was the best by at least one measure (DRS).

Varsho maybe was the best fielder in the entire AL but Kwan played 500 more innings in LF and was as good or better on a rate basis if you only look at their LF playing time. Could he win the Platinum Glove without even winning a Gold Glove?

  6. Both Varsho and KK lead their position in fielding run value this year… But varsho and KK probably both get dinged by innings played.

Varsh played significantly less lf than Kwan

  7. Shame Varsho got the nod at the one of three (LF, CF, Util) positions where he wouldn’t be a lock for it.

He’s the best defensive player in baseball and he likely won’t get a GG.
