Is Herb/Chargers masking how much the injury is impacting his play?

Could be coincidental, but there just appears to be a noticeable drop in QBR at the Raiders game. I wonder if the broken finger is worse than they’re playing into. At the very least, it’s changing up game planning without going under center.

  1. Not exactly relevant to injury, but I was at the tennessee game. The crowd environment was probably worse for the chargers during raiders and cowboys at home. Titans crowd was just not very loud and decent amount of charger fans present.

  2. Vegas and Dallas have a good pass rush. We have very poor pass protection. I think that’s likely the main factor.

  3. I wouldn’t say it’s the injury. There’s a lot of factors.

Mike and Corey being done for the year is up there for sure.

But also QBs have bad games. I mean look at burrow on Sunday. Under 200 yards, 2TD- 1Int(same and Herb) yet they won cause their Defense made plays.

I’m in no way pinning this game on the defense. It’s just the ball bounces one way for some people and another for others.

Being a Charger, the ball will 95% always bounce the wrong way for Justin.

  4. It must be bothering him to some degree. Looking at body language, he was naturally protecting that hand all game. He is human.

I really smashed my finger in a door a few years back. And that took time to heal. And it wasn’t even not even broken (I thought it was).

  5. We’ll never know. He won’t admit how much pain he’s in or how much it affects him. This is the organization that left him in the game with fractured ribs down 28, they don’t care. His top 3 wr’s were out and had backups on the oline and they made no trades to help him.

They have no issues with other players missing games but seem to not care about their qb

  6. Of coarse, Herbert will never make excuses for his performances, he takes fault and says he needs to get better. – Every post game interview

  7. He said in the presser today that there’s never a position or time that it feels good right now. (His finger”. So, yea. The finger affects the amount of snaps he can take under center and even the way he grips the ball. He also wacked it the first time he got knocked down and he was pretty jarred after that, I think.

But the O line was awful. Not having Corey and Mike is becoming more and more visibly problematic, for sure. And the Defense shit the bed in the worst of moments.

  8. Dudes in pain.

On top of that his safety blanket to throw the ball in Williams is gone and his safety blanket to identify blitz pickups and slide protections in Linsley is gone.

So he is now: having to make better reads presnap, coordinate blocking packages presnap, maneuver a sloppy interior during the play, watch for coverages in play, make better throws in play to receivers that aren’t freakish catchers like Williams (Allen not a part of that group but will now be double covered), protecting his non throwing hand which he used to stiff arm and create passing space from 300 lbs defensive lineman, and then giving out the plays for the following play since they’re in hurry up a lot. ALL WHILE DEALING WITH A BROKEN FINGER AND FINGERNAIL THAT WAS RIPPED OUT.

The guys a beast, I can barely function as an adult if I stub my toe or bite my tongue on my boring ass day. Give the herb some slack and expect there is a dip in play.

  9. Only 2 interceptions. He is playing okay could be worse. Defense let’s us down if offense is good. If Defense is good. Offense let’s us down
