  1. Fans are dumb

Ridley is the reason Kirk is on pace for a huge season and why Evan is in top for most every TE category

  2. It’s all about expectations. A lot of fans were expecting a top 5 wr in the NFL. He hasn’t been that.

In my opinion he’s been fine. He looks rusty, but you can tell he’s a good WR. I’m happy to have him on our team.

  3. I think he’s battling through an injury, and his explosiveness and elusiveness are suffering due to that.

But, he’s still a threat in that state so he’s out there.

  4. Think a lot of people disappointed not necessarily in his talent, but that coaches are fine to just let him draw coverage instead of scheming him open. Fantasy reasons sure, but a lot of people would love to see what he can do fully unleashed

  5. It’s true that Calvin Ridley helps out the offense immensely by drawing double coverage. However, truly elite WR’s still find ways to get separation, and we haven’t seen that.

I’m not going to just put that all on 0 though, because we’re not doing a great job with the offensive scheme to get him open. Most plays he’s way out on the sideline, which makes it easy for defenses to take him out of the play. Defenses scheme to take away Tyreek Hill on the dolphins, but they do an amazing job of finding ways to pick apart the defense still.

  6. We watched the Amazon channel that has all the different players circled on different plays and there was always a safty rolling to Ridley.

  7. The only people mad are the ones that expect fantasy points. That Kirk TD doesn’t happen if Calvin isn’t doubled.

  8. Trevor is also only making like one read after every snap. Hard to get the ball to your down the field guy when you aren’t letting the play develop.

  9. Seems like a combination of a lot of things, based on that film:

    1. Doubled on a good chunk of plays. Safety help was rolling towards him quite a bit. Definitely wasn’t every play, so I think it’s more than that.

    2. Play calling 1. Didn’t even seem to be a second read on anything in the first half. Trevor immediately turns to the other side of the field after the snap. I think the coaches realized this and tried to scheme him in more. Thus the screen (where Engram totally missed his block) and the sweep.

    3. Play calling 2. So few motions except when they actually needed them for the play, like the sweeps or flea flicker. Not sure if the coaches are trying to minimize penalties, but I’d love to see more motions. Without them, you’re letting the defense stay comfortable and so what they want.

    4. His route running didn’t look as crisp as it has; he wasn’t getting much separation from his DB most of the game. Maybe a product of the rough schedule.

  10. I saw a stat last week he’s getting jammed off the line more than any other receiver in the league.

  11. Not having Zay really kills Ridley’s ability to get open cuz teams feel like they can just double him all game. Leaves Engram and Kirk open a lot but also leads to too many forced throws to Agnew. Hope when Zay comes back we have a little more ability to find spots for him

  12. I think I see 2 doubles on him. And one looks like he was just the only man in both of their zones. Most of these are zone or man under, and the safety is really only getting ridley as an early threat. And 95% of the time, they didn’t have to worry about the 2nd threat because we didn’t have that kind of time in the pocket. If we had more than 2 seconds to pass the ball then that safety might not be able to jump on his route every time without getting burnt on a seam or something.

  13. This game was a mix of many things:

    1. Saints have a good set of DBs. They have guys who can cover WR1s well enough.

    2. The game plan seemed to be to protect Trevor’s leg. 1, maybe 2 reads and then bail. I think Trevor bailed and ran a few times when the gameplan likely called for him to throw the ball away. Because he’s the man.

    3. We weren’t playing from behind at all. We got the early lead and kept it most of the game. Couple that with playing conservative due to Trevor’s knee, and you’re not looking to pass intermediate and long, which is where Ridley really excels.

Ultimately, I think people just want to find problems where there likely aren’t any.

  14. I’m fine with him doesn’t complain about targets or numbers when his number is called now he makes the plays.
