  1. Maybe the reason Harden wanted to join the trip is because he loves this organization so much, he didn’t want them getting fine

  2. The NBA is perfectly valid to ask. And the Sixers are perfectly valid to answer that he skipped pretty much the entire training camp, preseason, left again for “personal reasons”, announced publicly that he would never play for this franchise again, and then magically showed up to the team plane expecting to play in Game 1.

  3. The NBA should be happy the Sixers didn’t let him play. Him sabotaging the team and playing “Harden Ball” on a national stage would have been a disaster for the league.

  4. Y’all ain’t gonna want to hear this, but even if Harden doesn’t deserve to play he has to go on the road trip. At very least, the NBA would expect Harden on the sidelines according to the new player rest rules. The NBA shouldn’t have an issue with him not playing, but altogether not letting him attend is breaking the agreement.

Edit: Harden himself is saying he’s good to go. He practiced with the team before the plane left. Philly is going to have a massive uphill battle proving he isn’t in game shape when Harden himself wanted to go. i understand the idea of ‘you don’t practice, you don’t play’, but to hold him off the trip completely is not going to easily be defensible by just saying ‘game shape and hasn’t been at practice ‘

2nd edit: Another factor to this is this instance will set the precedent for how this rule will either be enforced or circumnavigated in the future, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they were more heavy handed considering they want teams to take this new deal seriously

  5. So the NBA, who got hours upon hours of offseason content out of the Harden saga, is now demanding the Sixers provide a valid reason why he won’t be playing one primetime game or be subject to penalty? Do I have that right?

  6. These are all theatrics.. I just wanna watch ball can they just opt to pay him and send him home until they work out a deal?

  7. Fuck ESPN. Espn and their dumbass narratives.

“The Process isn’t the right kind of basketball” >> Thunder having 28 million picks
“Sixers are one of the best teams in the east, they should make a run” > Jimmy & Tobi
“Joel and Ben will never win a championship together. Trade joel.” Later, “Trade ben.”
“Joel and Harden are going to be the best duo since Shaq.”
    “Joel might want out.”

    Seriously fuck ESPN.
