[Ferreira] To the “it’s the offense not the defense” crowd: The #Packers are 17th in offensive DVOA and 27th in defensive DVOA. The defense has regressed after being 22nd in 2021 and 20th in 2022.

  1. But have you considered the fact that the Defense is on the field too much because the offense can’t get a first down, and they are doing what they can while constantly being on the field with very little rest?

  2. Defense isn’t good but they’ve played good enough to win games by holding multiple teams to under 20. If you want to win games your offense has to be capable of scoring 20+ that’s just a fact of the NFL.

  3. People have become so focused on stats they’ve forgotten how important scored points are apparently

  4. I get that advanced stats are the thing now, but how about the fact that our defense has only allowed more than 20 points twice this season. The defense hasn’t been as good as it’s supposed to be, but we should absolutely win when we’re holding teams to 17 and 19

  5. Oh just stop it now 🤦🏻‍♂️

I hate barry ball just like the next guy, but fuck off outside of Lions game, the Def has kept us in it despite doing nothing in the 1st half.

The fact we had a chance to win any of these games is Def keeping things respectable, despite drive after drive stalling

Yeah same problems as always; Run def is gash and in critical situations they let teams drive down into FG range time n time again but they are exhausted and most injuries are on the Def

—-cant believe im defending Joe Barry what the fuck is happening

  6. It’s a group effort. It takes a lot of moving parts performing in perfect dysfunction to make a shit show of this magnitude.

  7. What is it with these clowns performing all these mental gymnastics to do anything to blame the defense? Shut your mouth, bro, honestly. It’s embarrassing.

  8. People who blindly quote stats like this clearly don’t watch the games. It’s so incredibly obvious that there is a breakdown or error on almost every single offensive snap. You want another stat? Let’s talk about how we regularly can’t score any points in the first two quarters of a game. What’s that stat look like?

  9. We’re also playing (and losing) to some garbage ass teams.

We’re regressing while playing worse teams than we were last year.

  10. Yeah through this week the Packers are actually ranked 7th in team defense (yards given up) 3rd in passing defense and 25th in rushing defense, 14th in first downs given up, 14th in points allowed, and 10th in least penalties.

The rushing defense needs work but overall theyve played more than good enough to win some games.

  11. The frustrating part of our defense is that they will hold a team all game but when we absolutely need the stop they will let them march right down and score.

This happens before half as well. Pretty frustrating.

  12. That doesn’t match the eye test. The offense has been absolute ass and everyone knows it.

  13. Offense needs to sustain some drives. We are playing some bum teams and not putting up 20 points

  14. Oh please. This schmuck, like a few others on Packers Twitter, just refuses to hold a Love driven offense as accountable as it should be

  15. For pretty much any metric you can find, there will be blind spots. For DVOA, the blind spot is that it treats all instances of a given down and distance the same when they actually aren’t. For instance, 1st and 10 at your own 2 yard line is very different than 1st and 10 at the 50. Advanced analytics are fun and can provide some interesting talking points, but they can only go so far.

  16. Def ratings are generally based on yards allowed. If the offense isn’t using clock, def is on the field for more plays.

    More plays = more yards.

Not saying the def is great, but you can’t completely remove the offense from their responsibility in the stats
