I’m so sick of never kicking a 55+ yd field goal

Regardless of the kicker, regime, coordinators, this franchise loves to punt from the opponents 40. Like I get that we haven’t had incredible kickers, but I know they have the physical capability to make a 55-58 yarder. Heck, in 2021 Fairbairn made a 61 yarder! Yet year after year we punt from the 38+ and again lost today in part to punting twice instead of attempting 56 and 57 yard field goals.

Edit: surprised at how old school this sub is. The league was over 72% success rate on 50+ yard field goals last year including 6/6 by fairbairn. He does well when they let him try, they just don’t like to let him.

  1. I kind of get not trying, but ka’imi made a 61 yarder before in 2021, he clearly has enough leg for it.

  2. And if he misses that FG the panthers get 2 first downs and are in FG range. This sub would have lost its mind. The call was fine.

  3. Yea we should have kicked those, if my memory serves me correctly fairbairn has been pretty good from long distances

  4. I’d argue we’d have been in a better position even if we tried the field goal and missed because then at least we’d probably get one more chance on offense. Less field less time taken off the clock by Carolina

  5. How about we don’t take the dumbest fucking penalty imaginable right before making this a borderline call?

  6. I’m going to trust the coaches have a better understanding of the players range in any given game.

Easy to say he did it 2 years ago, but how many times has he done it in practice and how was he kicking in warmups?
