Why is Vladdy viewed as a great defender when statistically he never was? Using Christian Walker, who is also a 1B for comparison.

1. I don’t know. Toronto media puts him up there. I have no idea.

2. Some players make routine plays look highlight-reel worthy and some sportscasters can’t tell the difference between that and actually great defense.

3. Defensive stats don’t take picks into consideration, which vladdy is elite at. Not that it makes up for the rest of his defense

   He has a really good glove, he just can’t do anything if he has to move his feet laterally.

4. from a Blue Jay fan/broadcaster perspective they overrate all blue jay players

5. Coz he does the splits a lot and has long hair

6. I thought his défense this year was not as good but he’s won a gold glove so it’s in there somewhere. The guy just looks out of shape again.

7. 1st base is typically your last stop on the road to full time DH. To be at that point at 24 suggests his ceiling as a player has dropped significantly. Full time DH is fine if you can rake but he hasn’t been, which raises the question of what to do with him.

8. Gold glove year he was above average…gg I dunno but last year he was a lot worse
