  1. The excuse making for the offense has reached the point where forcing three turnovers but not giving the offense short enough fields is considered the defense not carrying its weight, lol. The defense has its own issues but after every loss Tomlin puts the bar for the offense even lower.

  2. “TJ wasn’t able to grab it and bring it to the 7 yard line, and that’s really all we can expect from the offense. In fact, that’s why we coached Kazee to take the ball out of the endzone on his interception because in our eyes there’s no difference between to 2 and 20 yard line. If our starting position isn’t 10 yards from Boswell’s FG range, we really ought to just punt it back to them and try to get a more advantageous field position.”

  3. Matt Canada couldn’t tee up a fuckin golf ball if he had Phil Mickelson showing him how.

  4. A response like that is disrespectful to the defense IMO. What an absolutely stupid thing to say. Nice job minimizing the players actually doing their job.

  5. It was different seeing the offense go 90 something yards after that pick. Just couldnt cash in.

  6. I will say the one pick in the end zone they tried to run back and failed miserably.. that didn’t help.

Other than that, no excuses. This offense is a walking tragedy. Pickett, the oline, Canada, Tomlin. They all share the blame.

  7. Wow, sorry the D getting three turnovers wasn’t “really advantageous”. Whatever the fuck that means.

This is an absolutely fucking absurd quote.

  8. Defense should be pissed at this quote. They do a great job most of the game despite being down 2 of our best players. Our offense once again leave them out there so damn much. All that, and we’re gonna tell the world it isn’t enough. Not to mention how many injuries they will continue to sustain due to being on the field a disproportionate amount.

It’s like being the only good worker at your job, and your boss says it’s enough because you aren’t doing your unperforming coworkers jobs too. Then he makes excuses for the underperformers and never holds them accountable. A great way to erode loyalty and cause resentment.

  9. Well, I am going to hugely overreact on this quote. A turnover is literally an advantage to the team the ball is overturned too. You mean to tell me that the head coach of a proud organization is going to go on record and make this bullshit ass excuse? Give me a break. It’s pathetic and really speaks to the mindset of Mike Tomlin. No accountability whatsoever and it really makes me sad as a proud Steelers fan.

  10. So, from now on, every time the other team’s offense is in our field, our defense shouldn’t take a turnover. Otherwise our fragile offense is going to be in a disadvantageous position. Fuck this response man, we are a joke.

  11. Even in its full context this is a horrible take. A turnover is advantageous no matter where it is on the field. A struggling offense doesn’t define the advantage of a turnover. He should be praising our defense instead of yapping about what yard line the turnover happened on.

  12. This is some weak shit from coach T. I’d be feeling pretty damn disrespected if I was a player on our D right now

  13. “Without those picks we would have lost 41-10, but we’re thankful for them because 20-10 ain’t half bad.”

  14. Ok…I am basically a Tomlin Supporter. But this was a shitty answer. Goddamn it… having an opposing offense walk off the field after being in our red zone with ZERO POINTS should be enough to inspire our offense.

Our players aren’t shit… I STILL think it’s an offensive coaching problem, but I think Tomlin’s hands are pretty much tied both due to the Rooney philosophy of not paying a coach to sit on a couch, and it already being mid season.

  15. Hate to break it to Tomlin, but if you have a competent offense any possession is a tee up for the offense to at least get 3 a decent amount of the time.

  16. Translation: Basically, with this offense we need the D to score or put us inside the 10 to have a chance.

  17. Bro what is going on in that office and locker room? Why is the offense a thing that does no wrong???

  18. “We didnt return the fumble or interception for a touchdown, or inside the 10! How is our offense supposed to score from that far out!?”

  19. Having seen the full quote, I really don’t understand what Tomlin was trying to do here. Is he seriously saying we were able to get turnovers, but because they didn’t give the offense a desirable field position, it isn’t advantageous? Aren’t turnovers by your team’s defense advantageous by fucking nature?

Sure, Kazee’s decision to take it out of the endzone only to go out at the 2 yard line was bad, but that still prevents the Jags from getting points AND it takes the ball out of Trevor Lawrence’s hands and puts it into Kenny’s. And they did that 3 times this game. Your offense shouldn’t have to rely on insanely good field position off of turnovers in order to score… if you were actually a competent offense. I hate how Tomlin is constantly deflecting blame on the offense. He’s gonna lose the locker room with comments like this.

  20. I am a fan of Tomlin, but quotes like these and just the completely lackadaisical attitude really makes me think that it’s best for both the Steelers and for him that a separation happens. This isn’t to say he’s a bad coach or anything (because he’s not). It’s just a bit like the Andy Reid thing in Philly. Both sides needed a change. Honestly, this franchise hangs on to Head Coaches way too long. Chuck Noll stayed at least 5-6 years too long, and let’s face it, if Bill Cowher hadn’t retired, he’d still be the head coach, even though his philosophy would be years out of date.

I know this franchise is obsessed with “stability”, but there comes a point where stability turns into calcification, and we are rapidly hurtling towards that. Maybe everyone needs a fresh start.

  21. He is right. If the turnover doesn’t put the ball on the 1 fucking yard line, our offense probably won’t score.

  22. So it’s the defense’s fault that the offense didn’t score?

    Jesus Christ this fucking guy.

How the fuck can anyone still support him being the HC?

  23. At this point I want to know what dirt canada has on tomlin. There’s gotta be more to this.

  24. Mike is insane. He defends damn near every offense question, but always says the “rest of the group” can be better. I think he knows he fucked up by bringing back Canada.

  25. This coming from the guy that, just yesterday, said slow starts and lack of early production don’t really have an outcome on the game.

  26. So in other words, unless the defense basically scores themselves, it doesn’t help because our dogshit offense can’t do anything. It’s been trending down for years while he’s done nothing. But no problem. The national media will tell us all how great he is. Mike Teflon will get his prime time slurp job Thursday night.

  27. You have to think he is falling on the sword for someone else at this point, but to take a stab at the defense which is the only glimpse of hope for this team? Really getting tired of Tomlin bailing out the offense with the excuse that they “were still in the game late”. Scoring more than 3 points in the first half puts you in a far more advantageous position to win football games. An offense worth a damn makes this a playoff caliber team and not one to overlook, either.

  28. “I mean, damn, they ran some back for scores against the Browns. This week? Not a ONE. Pretty shoddy effort by the D, if I must say.”

  29. The offense went 90+ yards on the pick by Kazee to get our first points. So this argument holds no water. A turnover shifts momentum to your team. Our inability to get much of anything out of them, regardless of where they happened, is simply more evidence that the offense is incapable of capitalizing on things that other offenses do routinely.
