[Lombardi] Will Kyle Shanahan moved defensive coordinator Steve Wilks from the booth to the field? “That’s something that we’ll discuss this week, just the two of us. If that’s something that he thinks would help him, we’ll definitely try.”

  1. His lack of personality has hurt the defense even more than the booth situation.

The defense took on their personality from their coordinators in Saleh and Ryans. They played inspired and ridiculously physical

Now it’s taken on the personality of their current coordinator: Old, tired and uninspired and unprepared.

Kyle should have “kept it in the family” instead of hiring a complete outsider who had no idea how these guys played football

  2. I now fully believe our D needs a strong on field voice, and I also think Wilks should have to face the guys in real time when his awful scheming leaves their asses out in the breeze. Damage may already be done at this point as they can’t be thrilled about his leadership.

  3. Can’t take anyone seriously who truly believes this would make a difference. The issue is with his scheme and play calling. His old ass isn’t hyping anyone up

  4. I can’t believe that the Jaguars (whose GM is Trent Baalke, ex 49ers GM) are also dickslapping the 49ers

  5. Fuck field vs booth. How about a defensive play book with some schemes and stunts? How about running defensive plays that make the offense guess? How about pre-snap defensive alignments that don’t completely give away what your entire play is?

If you’re just going to call the same plays from the field your putting lipstick on a pig.

  6. Wilks in the booth as compared to the field is made a bigger thing because of the charisma of the 49ers previous two DCs who both operated next to the field of play. Not all DCs act that way. The booth should give more instant access to the specifics of what wemt right and wrong, why and make adjustments. Should … also, does Kyle go crazy on the sideline? There’s more one way to skin the coaching cat.

  7. I do think there could be some benefit to correcting the man technique or whatever Wilks is experimenting with in real time if he’s on the sideline interfacing with the players.

  8. Let’s bring in Richard Sherman as a QC/DB coach, move him up the ranks to DC in a couple years. We all know Sherm would bring great energy to the sideline and defense.

  9. Fuck it would matter. They ain’t playin for him either in the booth, on the sidelines, or in the fuckin huddle. FIRE HIS ASS NOW cause it ain’t gettin any worse with him gone or better with him on the sideline.

  10. [“I try to remove myself from that element during the game so I can get ahead with my call,” Wilks recently told San Francisco 49ers team reporter Lindsey Pallares. “So being in the box, which I’ve been on the field and in the box before, I just feel more calm and relaxed up there.”](https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/169601-steve-wilks-what-expect-49ers-defense-2023/)

Just spit balling here, maybe being *”calm and relaxed”* (WTF?) is what got the D into this complacent predicament? Perhaps a little well-placed, righteous anger and correction would yield better results?

*^(“The Wilks gone bad. I wish I had more hands, so I could give those opponent TDs four thumbs down!”)*

  11. I’m really worried about the Jaguars game. Our coverage has been absolute dog shit. We aren’t able to get any pressure on the QB. If Wilks doesn’t get his head out his ass we could easily get carved up again.

  12. Take him from the booth, then away from the field, and away from every stadium they play in. And lastly move him out of the organization…as far as possible.
