Opinion: This is not & was never Vrabel/Kelly trying to play 2 QBs, it is a run first “wildcat” package that we are going to keep seeing. It is going to be a very effective situational package.

  1. I don’t think many fans mind this being a formation. We mind trying to get a rookie QB going and as soon as he gets a first down, you pull this out. Still shouldn’t have booed though

  2. Yes and if it weren’t for a botched snap it likely would’ve been two plays for ~10 yards and been fine. Players seem to love Malik and he’s athletic enough to get a few yards on a designed run.

Like Derrick Henry said “Whatre they mad about? It worked”

  3. A lot of the “modern” offenses that our fans are always clamoring for is about manipulating numbers, especially with the linebackers. Having 4 runners on a play is a package (probably a good red zone package) the defense will have to account for going forward….well if it wasn’t a bad snap and fumble.

  4. I mean he’s been used as a gadget player like 5 times and has fumbled on 3 of them. Even if it is a wildcat package they probably shouldn’t be using it.

  5. He’s fumbled the damn ball away multiple times on this crap. Yeah it could be effective, but it isn’t worth the risk of a turnover just to be cute.

  6. The issue isn’t the package. The issue is Malik Willis. He shouldn’t see the field. Run it with Levis or Tannehill.

  7. If Vrabel came out and said Will is our starter and we’re going to have some packages and plays for Malik, then no one would have blinked an eye. He also could have just not said anything and let people find out the plan at kickoff. He didn’t though, he said both quarterbacks are going to play and went further by saying they might even alternate series, which sparked the whole debate. Having packages for players like the Saints do with Taysom Hill is one thing, and saying you’re going to alternate two young qbs is completely different. Anyone with a working brain can see that Levis is miles ahead of Malik, and if the coaching staff truly thought it would be a good idea to alternate qbs, we have serious talent evaluation problems.

I like Vrabel and think he’s a good coach, but sometimes he tries to outsmart everyone by doing and saying dumb stuff. Additionally, if fans want to boo players or coaches, that’s their right they paid for the ticket. If this was in a market like NY or Philly they would have been booing since last year. Don’t like it when fans boo dumb coaching decisions and/or bad play? Coach better, play better.

Either way, it worked out, we got the W, we have a qb that looks like he could be the answer, and we shouldn’t have to deal with this issue again. Titan up, FTC, FTT, FTJ.

  8. I mean.. I didn’t like it being 4 plays into Levi’s’ debut where they were moving the ball.

  9. Looks like a triple option package to me. You could do it a lot of ways, and RPO or even roll Willis out of a fake with a flood concept. Definitely could be a good package with a better snap.

  10. I mean it’s whatever but you don’t see Mahomes getting subbed out for a practice squad QB to run a play and fumble. Let your QB run the offense imo. Save the gadgetry for…someone who can actually make a play.

  11. I agree. Vrabel was never going to actually rotate the QBs, it was always just going to be a package with a few plays, but he’s a troll and doesn’t tip his hand to the media and everyone is blowing his comments way out of proportion.

That being said, I also agree with everyone who’s saying that Willis just isn’t good and there shouldn’t be any packages for him. The good news is that Vrabs has already said that Levis is the starter while Tanny is out, so we can all calm down about the rotating QBs thing that didn’t even happen.
