[Mendes] In the craziness of yesterday, I realize there is something I wanted to pass along. I had a chance to spend some time with Cam Talbot Wednesday. He reflected on his season in Ottawa. They bought a house and were hoping to stay here — but injuries derailed that plan.

  1. sucks to know they bought a house and actually wanted to stay. I know we cooled down on him fast but when he was not hurt (at least clearly not playing through an injury) he was good. That game against Boston (i think?) was wild. Abbott calling “Pad save Talbot, save Talbot, TALBOT!” as he was just ringing shots off will stay with me. I remember some opposing teams threads on r/hockey discussions saying “Prime Hasek is out there in a Talbot jersey.”

Sucks how badly it turned out, hope Korpi isn’t cursed.

  2. Talbot’s had himself a great start in LA: he’s taken the starter’s net from Copley and has a .914 in 7 games. Ranks 9th of 47 goalies with 4+ GP in goals saved above expected. In comparison, Korpisalo ranks 39th and has a .903 in 6 games. I expect Korpi to climb quite a bit as he adjusts, but it’s still very frustrating seeing us lose the Talbot trade and then start rough with the pseudo-Talbot/Korpisalo exchange.

But more importantly I think this highlights something about the team that I’m sure Andlauer and Staios identified with their newest hire – the Sens seem to be *awful* at managing injuries. It’s one thing if our players keep getting hurt out of the blue (they do as well) but it really seems like it’s hard for our guys to stay healthy or to come back from being hurt. There have been a number of instances of players who come back only to get hurt again, from Murray, to White, to Norris, and Talbot too, amongst others. Hopefully the new hire helps us improve on that aspect, because we could really use the help.
