Sherman on being DC: “The answers are in the building as Kyle said. I would do my best if asked but there is no world where they would ever or should ever pass over the incredible men that are in that building to hire someone with no coaching experience in the middle of the season.”
Richard Sherman’s response to a post about the possibility of becoming a coach on the #49ers staff if the opportunity presents itself:

I genuinely can’t believe how much I’ve gone from despising a player to genuinely loving a player as much as Sherm. He helped build the culture of the current team and we still feel that today.
Maybe bring him in as an assistant of some sort first if interested. Maybe DB coach? Then maybe DC?
This man should really look into coaching. Hes very smart and has that good energy
Remember when we all hated this guy?
Thank you sherm!!!!
Now the nephews of this sub will stop asking for it
I’m curious who the answer in the building is cause Sherman seemed pretty convinced Wilks ain’t it and I felt Kyle/John had something up their sleeve to go all in in spite of how they feel the defense has been performing
This shows humility, integrity and intelligence
Why does he have to be the DC? Couldn’t he just be an advisor and sideline hype man? I don’t think Wilks is doing a great job, but I also think half of it is he’s not on the sidelines with the guys. Maybe Sherm could bridge that gap.
The answer is in the building but it’s probably a defensive position coach.
Sherm is a real one and people calling for him to be DC are stupid. I think he would make a great coach but this isn’t baseball or basketball where you can just step in and be good at the job.
I would love to have sherm come on as a defensive assistant and start his experience in coaching. I don’t know if he’ll leave the tv life because of how cushy it gets but I think with the experience, attitude and scholastic background I think he could be a killer D coordinator
I really wanted him to become a smaller scale coach for us when he retired but he instantly got the TV deal (good for him) but he’s an incredibly smart guy both on and off the field.
I’ll never forget, after the Sherman vs Crabtree thing I really hated him, and even my dad a die hard niners fan, told me “show him some respect, he’s earned it through his play as well as his off field intelligence. He’s a smart guy.” And ever since then I respected him even before he joined our team.
I agree with him though, I’d love him as our DC but he’s never coached before. I hope they offer him something so he can build that resume but I think he’s having fun with the Amazon deal.

How some people are feeling right now based on Richard’s statement.
In other words, he’d take the offer, and thinks a change needs to be made and they picked wrong. I’m so into Sherm as a forever forty niner.
Very nice of him to say.
I still don’t think Wilks has the answers or should be in the building.
It’s funny the way things play out because it feels like we landed on some weird alternative timeline where he and Harbaugh never had beef at Stanford and he’s been a niner from day 1 the way he talks about SF.
Jed and Lynch should definitely put feelers out there to see if he’s into coaching at some point.
I’ve never done a harder 180 on anyone in my life, except my ex wife maybe.. I loved her more than anything and now I wouldn’t piss on that bitch if she was on fire. Evil incarnate
No. Why this is even a conversation is beyond me. He’s never coached so let’s hand him what should be a top defense and see how he does?
We don’t deserve Richard Sherman
More common sense than 90% of comments I see wishing he was our DC
Mans said if you want me as DC, hire me as a DB coach this offseason first then we’ll talk. Maybe I am just delusional
Obviously a thoughtful and highly intelligent guy. It would be cool if they could get him in the building in some capacity.
That is a perfect answer, and one worthy of a DC
An absolute class act and thoughtfully pragmatic. I enjoy his podcast recap and analysis so much more than the shouty hype men theatrics on Monday morning.
Seems like Sherm has ideas of who the answer in the building would be. Is there someone else on coaching staff who could take over DC if they fired Wilks?
Sherman once again with a perfect response.
