  1. Ernie won his second consecutive NL MVP award beating out Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Wally Moon, and Sam Jones. Banks earned the award by hitting .304 with 45 home runs and lead leading 143 RBIs. He also had .985 fielding percentage. Mr. Cub became the first NL player to win back-to-back MVP awards joining Jimmie Foxx (1932 & 1933), Hal Newhouser (1944 & 1945), Yogi Berra (1954 & 1955), and Mickey Mantle (1956 & 1957) who had all accomplished the feat in the AL.
