Why ESPN listed the Red Sox as one of the 10 early candidates to sign Shohei Ohtani this offseason.

Not to mention we have a Sarku Japan in DTX that’s got to count for something
Because the need to list 10 teams and 20 of them aren’t believable
l really don’t think it’s gonna happen. Needing surgery puts him out of pitching for potentially a season + and this team needs a number of pitchers immediately
He’s a better pure hitter than many of our past signings. Anything he can pitch is a plus. I fully hope the sox put in a good offer for him
They haven’t acted like it in recent years, but there has been a long stretch of time now where putting the Red Sox outside the top 10 on any major free agent would be ridiculous. Not letting Bloom spend any money and firing him, and then hiring Breslow and immediately singing a $400+ million free agent sounds exactly like something this ownership group would do.
