  1. My takeaways:

I have no problems with the way the defense and ST played today. We made one mistake that resulted in a TD and shut down the Chargers despite two offensive turnovers. Giving up 1 offensive TD is fantastic.

But sadly, we can’t ignore that the Jets offense is statistically the worst in the NFL and on pace to set *historic* lows across the board. For example, the league average on 3rd and 4 (or less) is ~60% – we are under 25%.

Obviously a huge part of that is Rodgers going down. But Zach is statistically one of the worst QBs in NFL history. He can’t make simple throws and holds on to the ball way too long. He takes -15 yard sacks instead of throwing it away.

But he isn’t being helped by terrible playcalling, 8 offensive penalties, an injury-ridden OL, and receivers who cannot catch throws that hit them in the hands. This team could not put up more than 6 points against one of the worst passing defenses in the NFL. That is simply unacceptable. The offense is actually playing statistically worse than the Gase era, something I thought was impossible.

And that brings me to the coaching. Saleh had Bowles energy tonight in a massive game. Hackett and the offense were pathetic. 8 penalties is disgusting. And JD, well, he still hasn’t built an OL in five years, and punted on the season by not signing an actual backup QB or any WR depth.

The Jets had a chance to put the league on notice tonight with a big win on national television. The fans showed up, and were roaring on the first defensive stop. And what did they get? The same old Jets. 6 points and the Chargers disrespecting us by flying the Jets arms in our end zone and laughing on the sideline. All because our GM refused to sign a journeyman QB that would certainly be better than Zach Wilson.

We are not a playoff team with this offense. It’s not even a question.

  2. Asking this historically awful offense to do anything against the 32nd ranked defense is just too much to ask I guess.

Can’t wait for the videos and posts about how Zach is actually not bad though. Actual delusional people that call people with a brain and eyes “doomers”. Like this EXACT SCENARIO ALREADY HAPPENED LAST YEAR. Please kill me. I beg.

  3. Partition the blame out in whatever ratio you’d like but everyone involved with the offense not named Breece or Garrett is on my shit list. That includes Hackett and Saleh.

  4. Allen Lazard should be cut tonight. Trading for Rodgers saddled this team with bad players. Lazard, Cobb, Turner, Cook, all terrible. Hackett is embarrassingly bad too.

Wish we had benched Zach after week 3 and moved on. This is gonna be another losing season.

Every time we have something, there’s a stupid ass penalty. This is why I can never believe in Saleh. NEVER any accountability.

Injuries are injuries, but oline depth should have been the one and only priority, and we have no WRs. This team lacks talent on offense, and JD failed miserably to get that talent.

**edit**; somehow we get sucker punched with oline injuries every year and we’re never prepared for it. on another team, JD would lose his job for not throwing everything at this oline until something stuck.

and to not grab a WR at the deadline…… nobody said it had to be a big name. It could have been a scrub. anybody is better than the trash WRs we are fielding

  5. The defense held Herbert to 130yrds on 30 pass attempts and yet we lost by 3TDs at home, I legitimately dont know if I’ve seen a more pathetic offense in my life and thats a week after seeing the Giants throw for -8yrds

Tommy Devito scored more against our elite defense than we did against the worst pass D in the league and he had -8 pass yards, it racks my brain that anyone can still defend Zach after this

  6. Worst pass D in the league coming into the game and we score 0 tds… this team will never do anything with zach

  7. Look, he is not good – but this goes way beyond just the QB.

The entire offense is terrible. Line, receivers, PLAY CALLING, basically everyone but Breece (who also dropped an easy pitch).

Penalties, sacks, missed throws, dropped throws. Just all around awful.

  8. 2018: “We got our franchise quarterback! Let’s do this!”

2019: “Sure Gase might not seem like the best fit, but most importantly our QB showed some flashes in year 1 and we’ve got a new GM. Let’s see what they can do!”

2020: “Well it may be a rough season incoming, but at least we’re in position to draft Trevor Lawrence if things implode!”

2021: “New era. New coach, new QB, our GM has made some good moves. The ascent begins now!”

2022: “Our defense looks great and we’ve got some young studs at the skill positions. If Zach takes a step forward, we’re playoff bound!”

2023: “We’ve got Aaron Rodgers and the defense and skill position guys are better than ever. Let’s make a Super Bowl Run!”

3 weeks ago: “We’ve still got a good defense. The SB dream may be dead but we just beat the Eagles and should still be competing for a playoff spot.”

If you actually expected things to be different this time I seriously do not know what to tell you at this point

  9. 3 critical fumble in charger territory sealed that loss.

Zach isn’t a good QB so when he somehow manages to move the ball you have to make it count. We didn’t.

    Game over

  10. Anyone remember two years ago when we had Becton and AVT on the left side and we would get like 10 yards every time we ran it behind them? Good times.

  11. A legit championship caliber defense, one of the best I’ve seen in 50 years of Jets fandom, being utterly wasted with a QB who is not even backup NFL caliber, an OL that was absolute patchwork even with everyone healthy, and a WR corps that lost their key #2 in pre-season and did absolutely nothing to address it.

6 points against one of the worst defenses in the NFL, at home, in great weather, with the defense and crowd buzzing. A failure of massive proportions. Woody is gonna run it back next year with JD and Saleh in hopes a 41 year old QB is gonna be a magic man and it’s just delaying the inevitable. The two of them have failed so bad to put even a barely passable offense on the field it’s insane.

  12. Herbert statline today was 16/30 (53%), 136 Yards (4.5 Y/A), 65.9 Passer Rating.

Also Held the Chargers to 191 yards of offense.

The chargers had 300+ yards of offense in every game until today, and we still lost by 21….

  13. Zach isn’t the only problem, but he’s the biggest problem. This team can’t go anywhere with him and we all know it.

Normal teams score passing TDs every game.

  14. When we couldn’t score against the Giants, the excuse was that their defense is pretty good. Now what?

  15. Friendly reminder we could’ve traded a 6th round pick and had Josh Dobbs at QB/as a backup option.

  16. Texans have drafted 2 franchise QBs the past few years. Jets have drafted 0 franchise QBs the past few decades.

  17. Lazard has been such a net negative. And I have to think we have better options than someone who literally cannot catch or attack the ball.

  18. When Joe Douglas wakes up tomorrow and sees the results of this game…oh man is he really not going to do anything.

  19. I understand the philosophy of signing free agents who are good locker room guys, but is it that difficult to find guys who are positive locker room influences AND can catch the fucking ball?

  20. What a waste of a great defense. Our coaching staff is just as inept as our offense. Nothing changes, rinse and repeat.

  21. Feels like everybody must know by now that the only way they’ll lose to us is if their offense makes big mistakes so they’re just gonna play it safe and slowly accumulate 13-17 points over the course of the game, which will be more than enough to outscore our offense. Idk if the issue is that zach is just that terrible, or hackett/saleh are telling him to be conservative because they think they can win just with defense, or if it’s some combination of the two, but something needs to change.

  22. Time to bench Zach. How fucking long are we gonna treat him like he’s 5? He’s had his chance(s). Time to move on. We literally cannot get worse on offense. It’s a fucking disgrace. We look like Iowa out there.

  23. There needs to be accountability.

I’m sick of talking about the bad backup QB. No one on this offense makes any plays. The O-Line is failing at everything including run blocking…Breece rushed for 50 yards today with 16 carries thats pathetic and you dont deserve to be called a playmaker with stats like that. And frankly the same goes for Garrett.

I dont even wanna talk about Lazard because even I wouldve probably caught at least one of those passes.

Then you have shit like presnap penalties and just overall sloppy garbage that is holding this offense back way more than the abilities of the backup QB.

300 yards on offense and scored 6 points because of completely idiotic mistakes. And before someone replies with “oh bad Zach took 3 sacks he shouldnt” yes but until other people around him start doing their fucking job I’m just done talking about him and analyzing his bad play.

I’m really scared this FO and Staff believes its all Zach and Aaron is magically gonna fix shit next year and theyll have him play behind this turnstile garbage.

  24. During garbage time, down 2+ scores, you call a timeout with 40 and change seconds on the clock. Locked and loaded, let’s just get an offensive touchdown and have something to be happy about. First snap off the timeout, wide open TE in the end zone. Serviceable throw, and dropped it.

If that single play didn’t sum up this teams season, I don’t know what will.

  25. What if I told you your offensive line can’t block, your receivers can’t catch, and any positive yardage plays you get get killed by penalties. And only then do you realize you also have Zach Wilson.

  26. The type of loss that not only ends any realistic playoff hopes, but makes you think about what this team looks like in a few years. The Jets are wasting prime years of elite skill players and guys on rookie deals because Douglas wouldn’t swallow his pride and bring in a real backup. A pathetic, fireable offense.

  27. Whoever that guy was that said that 3rd quarter drive against the Chiefs extended Zach’s carrer by a few weeks was dead on holy shit

  28. We have the worst combo of QB/OC/O-line. Weapons outside of GW and Breece are at best mid. Disaster.

That said. We had 3 fumbles, 2 in plus territory, 1 that essentially was TD return. The defense played overall like B/B+ game against a top 10 caliber offense. I wish they tackled better on Eckler early in the game- prob costed them 4 points, but you shouldn’t have to ask your defense to be Superman every game. They did more than enough imo to win. We need to win special teams- gave up a TD return and mismanaged end of 1H, can’t let Chargers get 3 at the end- poor timeout and situational football.

Team again was sloppy, didn’t look prepared esp early.

It’s a damning loss for Saleh/Douglas regime. Let’s hope they step it up going forward

  29. This is why I was pissed at the report about trying to trade for Davante or Evans like I was supposed to be impressed. There were dozens of WRs available that would instantly improve us, but instead we stick with one of the most atrocious performances I’ve seen with Lazard. At this point Lazard’s performance is inexcusable and it is a disservice to the team that they didn’t bench him and get literally anyone else out there.

  30. I get that the right side of the o-line was bad. But fuck man, Zach Wilson has GOT to be better. He makes Tyson Bagent, Aiden O’Connell, and Josh Dobbs look like all-pros

  31. Good thing we picked a 4th string pass rusher instead of addressing the massive holes on offense.

  32. Saleh saying the o-line did a pretty good job. If he thinks that the dude is truly lost.

  33. I’m sorry but this is all on Joe Douglas. We have the worst offensive line in football. Our WR core is awful and we wasted our 1st rd pick when EVERYONE was calling for JSN or Addison. Uzomah has been useless. We don’t have a change of pace RB at all. We did nothing to help ourselves at the trade deadline. We all know Zach isn’t great, that’s why we got Rodgers but the team around him is just useless.
