  1. Praying its not one of those off seasons again. 2017, coming off hot 2016, we go out to sign some vets like Kendrys Morales to replace some of the bigger losses like Encarnacion. Michael Taylor hopefully is just a depth piece and not to replace Kiermaier

  2. Very good defender with sneaky pop. Likely a “Ross Atkins is diligent and checking out all available options” kind of scenario because Varsho is more than capable of moving to centre field

  3. Strictly platoon. Still strong defensively and put up a 146 wRC+ with 9 Homer’s against lefties in 112 plate appearances last season.

  4. He’s a fine backup guy at CF. We don’t have any internal options who can back up Varsho so I’m not mad at this.

  5. Not opposed to this for the right price. He’s a fine 4th OF when he’s used in the right situations. Def not a guy you want to play everyday though.

  6. As a 4th outfielder absolutely. If this is who we get to fill the hole in LF we better be signing Ohtani

  7. If he’s a 4th OF purely then fine, it would be completely redundant to have two glove first outfielders at CF when really this team needs an upgrade at LF. Also not as a platoon bat either.

  8. This seems perfect as a depth move. Even as someone who is *very* high on Varsho, CFs don’t tend to play 162- so it makes sense to bring in a backup CF who is very good at hitting the shit out of lefties, so that you can plan Varsho’s off-days in order to minimize the gap between him and the backup for those days.

Similar concept to bringing in a backup Catcher of the opposite handedness of your primary Catcher (assuming you aren’t just rocking two top5 Catchers in baseball who are both righties like Toronto).

  9. It’s that time of year where sportswriters say that the Jays are “showing interest” in any free agent with two arms and two legs.

Taylor could fill the KK spot in the roster. But if you’re going to do that, why not re-sign Kiermaier?
