Hire Lions Offensive Coordinator as our next head coach, get a QB coach and an upcoming offensive coordinator bc the current one don’t know how to say no to AS.

  1. I was listening to a podcast, I think the Athletic Football Show, and one of Robert Mays or Nate Tice said that Ben Johnson is significantly less interested in becoming a head coach after going through the interview process last season. They said the Panthers job was his if he wanted it, and he turned it down. They made his declining the job sound like it was less about the quality of the Panthers job and more about the fact that he’d rather be an OC. All of that to say, by all counts Ben Johnson would be a good HC candidate, but he may prefer to stay an OC.

  2. I would go with Ben Johnson, Kellen Moore, or Frank Smith. Ben/Kellen both have show they can elevate a QB while Smith was instrumental in Tua’s growth with McDaniel.

Our current OC was a QB coach for Titans when they had Fitzpatrick/Locker before being fired then was the QB coach for the Bears with Cutler, then 3 years of Trubisky. All QBs who never grew to a successful level. I would want an OC/QB coach who have worked with QBs that have shown serious growth. Darrell Bevel with Tua/Klay Kubiak with Purdy, Jerrod Johnson with Stroud, not a guy getting a second/third chance after ‘being in a bad situation’.

I’d also like someone who has a plan to use London/Pitts/Robinson. Not as decoys, not sparingly, I want to see the assets that were heavily invested in yield results. All 3 of the head coach candidates I mentioned come from heavy play action/motion offenses that are teaching the QB to find matchups and read the defense.

Then have them work with the front office to figure out which of these QBs best fits the system/culture. This is a QB heavy draft and I don’t want to punt it another year where it could look like 2019/2022 with only one true starter being available.

  3. I would cream my jorts if this happened but I don’t think he wants to be an HC yet. I do think our skill positions would be very enticing for him though, so it’s possible
