[Rogers] Cubs eyeing second chance to sign Shohei Ohtani

  1. In this article Jesse Rogers also says the Cubs have their eyes on Corbin Burnes. Can’t see that one ever happening, or at least no as a trade target with Milwaukee.

  2. Some bullet points for those who can’t currently read entire article:

    – Ohtani is the Cubs’ “big fish”

    – Pairing of Ohtani & Bellinger signings seen as “unlikely.” Cubs more likely to sign Shohei to a big deal than give Bellinger a big deal of his own

    – Cubs are in on both Yamamoto and Imanaga, with Imanaga already having spent time in Chicago

    – Cubs also interested in Corbin Burnes if Brewers decide to start selling off; but unsure if deal would materialize having just poached Counsell

    – If Pete Alonso is made available, Morel would likely be centerpiece of potential deal if Cubs came calling

    – Candelario unlikely to return, and Madrigal unlikely to be seen as the everyday option for 3rd base

    – Cade Horton could be viewed the top pitching prospect in all of MLB/MiLB next year
