Chris Manno on Zach Wilson’s benching

Kid took minimal, backup reps all offseason, w the understanding “I won’t be playing”.

Then got thrown in, knowing nobody wanted him in, and had the entire playbook he’d been working to learn thrown out the window, for a uber predictable gameplan, w zero creativity, behind literally 14 different O Lineman.

He didn’t play well, but nobody would’ve succeeded.

  1. If a backup has the mentality “I won’t be playing” then that person shouldn’t be in the league.

  2. Is it me or has everyone forgotten that Zach has been with the Jets for 3 seasons as a starter and sucked in each season? Mofo’s acting like he was just drafted and it’s his first year in the NFL..

  3. Well now that Chris has weighed in, I’m sold on Zach. We should resign the kid and cut him some slack, I mean, playing in the nfl is really hard, guys.

  4. There’s no excuses for not scoring a touchdown here and there, and converting a 3rd down here and there. Football is not rocket science but the jets sure do their best to make it seem so

  5. I will say, for most the year I don’t think Zach Wilson was ALWAYS the problem. At moments, yah, but when I was at the Raiders game I went “funny, no one is in the middle of the field” multiple time and they ran zero routes across the middle to force them into coverage. Everything was streaks or curls. I don’t mind benching him, but after Boyle and Siemen struggle I hope everyone calms down a bit.

  6. God forbid a 3rd year NFL QB be ready to play football. Even if your argument is that he didn’t know he would be playing, we’re in week 12 and he hasn’t improved.

  7. Not one player should ever think theyre not playing. The backup should always be ready. Its football, people get injured. He was working with the same playbook as the entire team. Enough excuses. 3 years of this shit offense with him at the helm. It always looked better with white or even flacco. Hes the issue.

  8. To add on: Hackett is a package deal with Rodgers. Woody wants what Rodgers wants. A lot of the issues post-achilles are a reflection of ownership capture

  9. So the backup went through training camp and the preseason treated as the backup? Does this dude think he’s dunking on the coaches for that? You can criticize Saleh, Hackett et al for plenty, but shitting on them for giving the backup qb backup snaps in camp is a wild take

  10. If we are going to asses him like he is a backup QB, and not like the 2nd pick in the draft who has started for 3 years, then it shouldn’t be a big deal switching him out when things aren’t working, just like any other backup QB.

Guess we will see in the coming weeks. What a relief it will be if the offense looks good so these people will no longer feel the need to open their mouths.
