This just doesn’t play well the day after losing Geno…

I get it, Julio is generational talent. However, unless he’s going to play as 12 WAR player the entire season, he’s not leading this team to a World Series alone. He was the definition of “mid” (maybe mid+) for two thirds of 2023, and unless we can add some serious offensive backup within the next 2-3 years, before our starting rotation and Cal get very expensive, he’ll just be another case study in an exceptional player spending his career in a mediocre team. Yeah, Geno didn’t have a great year offensively last season, but I prefer him over replacements for the vibes and defense alone, and I think his bat will improve next year.

I feel like given how our management spends, our realistic window for being strong contenders for a championship probably ends after the ‘26 season. Thoughts?

  1. I read that and thought “If Griffey, Edgar, Arod, Buhner, and Johnson didn’t get us to a World Series, how in the hell does this guy expect Julio alone to get us there?”

  2. I’m thankful that 54% of our games next year will be convincing no doubt solid victories.
