  1. My daughter has a bumble bee stuffed animal. His name is J BEE J. If it ever comes to life, do NOT test its arm trying to go for the extra base

  2. Did he get his 10 full years in? From my understanding that’s the “full benefits” window.

  3. JBJ was always one of my favorite guys we had during that stretch. Some of those grabs he made in center made me fall in love with the defensive side of the game.

  4. JBJ spent a lot of his career being an automatic out, but in the 2018 postseason he had an .835 OPS, 10 RBIs, and 3 HRs in 40 plate appearances. ALCS MVP and played center field as good as anyone else in the league to help his team get a championship. One of the rare dudes who provided decent value without having any bat whatsoever – had 17 career WAR despite having more seasons with a negative bat than a positive one. If he’d just been an average hitter he would’ve been one of the best outfielders in baseball, but I’m sure he’s happy with the career he had. He also would produce multiple “WTF??” highlight reel catches every single year.

[The extension to make this catch is one of the most athletic plays I’ve ever seen on a baseball diamond.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKxfLSnqZwA)

  5. What a gamer, unfairly maligned by the media here. Will never forget him rocketing one off that piece of shit in the 2018 ACLS.

  6. We got to see batting practice at the end of the regular season in 2018. We got a bunch of autographs from some call-ups, but JBJ was the first “real” guy to come over and sign. My daughter was ten at the time, and she started absolutely freaking out. He was unbelievable. He gave her a big hug, took a picture with her, and then gave her his bat, which remains one of her prized possessions.

Side note, right after he signed, we got Steve Pearce to sign right under him. If we had placed a bet at that moment on the eventual ALCS and WS MVPs, I feel like we would’ve made a LOT of money.

  7. 2 time college World Series champ. 1 time World Series champ. That’s a hell of a run as a baseball player.

  8. I hate when websites do this, just put his name in the article…

either way one of the best defenders we’ve had can’t believe he only had one gold glove.

  9. He couldn’t hit for shit, but he totally made up for it on defense. Which isn’t something that usually gets said about a non-pitcher.

  10. What a weird career he had. There were times when he looked like he’d be an impact bat and then just as quickly as the hot streaks came they’d disappear. His glove and baserunning were generally very good though.

  11. I will always look back at his Red Sox career with great fondness. Had an exceptional glove and arm. Instrumental to the Championship run in 18. Dealt with an extremely hostile fan base most of the time, yet always carried himself with class. Bradley Jr. is 100% on my Mt. Rushmore of favorite all-time players.

  12. The greatest BoSox outfield defender of my lifetime. Even when it wasn’t going well for him at the plate (which yeah, was quite often), he still proved himself an irreplaceable asset for that mid-to-late-2010s team. I’ll also never forget that insane hitting streak he went on in May 2016—that, combined with Mookie’s breakout, actually got me back into actively following the Sox after several years of ambivalence. Enjoy retirement, JBJesus!

  13. Definition of a blind squirrel finding a nut at the plate, and one of the greatest fielders of all time

  14. The only time I’ve ever been to Fenway I saw JBJ rob Aaron Judge of a homer. It was glorious. Hope he enjoys retirement.

  15. He took the time to sign a hat for me when he played for Portland. Been my favorite ever since. Absolute class act.

  16. I’ll always appreciate Jackie for his time here. His streaky bat made him polarizing amongst the fan base at times, but I think we all have to realize that even if we live to 100 we legitimately may never see another CF at Fenway as defensively gifted as JBJ. He was a pleasure to watch patrol our beautiful weird park, and he’s forever a champion. Happy retirement Jackie!
