I have 2 solutions for the Tush Push

Option 1 – Pull a 2013 playoff Kap tactic. You know they are going to pick it up so why try and defend it? I propose to have the defensive tackles jump offsides and wallop Hurts every time they line up for it. What’s a 5 yard penalty as opposed to 3. Remember Kap taking a hit every time he handed the ball off?

Option 2 – Put Juice in at QB and copy the tush push exactly. It’s not like Hurts picks it up because there’s a threat of pass. Just line up Juice and have 2 receivers or RB’s behind to push him through the line.

If every team took this approach the play would be out of the NFL next season.

\*Edit for “wallop” – Just meant to do what the Bills player did, Jump through the A gap and knock Hurts over. Nothing malicious enough to draw an unnecessary roughness penalty, just like Kap, they weren’t jumping at his knees or anything.

Edit2 – found a clip it’s the second play in this video. https://x.com/thomasrp93/status/1729556516313719015?s=20

  1. The Tush Push is undefendable. The only way to stop it is to prevent the Eagles from getting into those short yard situations.

  2. I think it would be harder to get a good hit for a QB sneak due to the pile. The only reason Kap got hit was because he was running an option, and the way to neutralize that was to make keeping it not an option. I just don’t see targeting Hurts being as effective at stopping that particular play..

  3. [Brett Kollmann does a good job of illustrating the play and how to defense it.](https://youtu.be/aTNK7boH9lo?t=230) Most teams seem to defend it wrong. Basically, teams stack the A gap instead of the B and C gaps. The play is run to Philly’s left under Mailata, Dickerson and Kelce. Watch the film, teams stack the wrong gaps.

  4. The guy who “wallops Hurts” better be a backup we can afford to have ejected because the refs will do it

  5. We don’t need any special play to defend that. Wilks and Shanahan already know the tactic that works against it and the team has properly executed it before.

  6. >jump offsides and wallop Hurts

    1. Offsides – 5 yards

    2. Personal Foul, Roughing the Passer – 15 yards

  7. Agree, although I wouldn’t target hurts. Just jump the snap and slam into those offensive line, that’s the strength of their team.

  8. Leave that to Fred Warner. He’s one of the few players in the league that’s actually found a way to stop the tush push.

  9. Move over Tush Push and Brotherly Shove…

    Get ready for Rolled Gold!

(or Gold Rush. That works too)

  10. Definitely can see eagles pulling some fuck shit trickery on the tush push play to lead to a big gain. Some outside handoff, fake run pass etc

  11. It’s only 5 yards if it’s offsides. If the player “wallops” Hurts, assuming they don’t blow it dead, there’s a decent chance they’ll get a 15 yard penalty.

  12. Not worth risking him but I would bring in Trent Williams and line him up over Kelce and try to establish an counter mass because of late it seems to be the secondary push that get Hurt over. Don’t let that initial push go forward at all.

  13. You know what’s funny. No one talks about this enough but Warner’s ability to time the snap is freaking crazy. And I have only seen him do it consistently. I watch a lot of football and I don’t see many people do it like him.

  14. The center and both guards immediately chop the D line as soon as the ball is snapped. It’s illegal AF and it’s how the play is seemingly unstoppable.

  15. Neither of these are solutions. Your first proposal will not only result in a personal foul and possible ejection, but will literally give them a first down. I have no idea what the point of the second proposal is.

  16. Yo we shouldn’t ask to hurt other players. Philly fans were giddy after Brock got hurt. Don’t stoop to their level.

  17. The tush push is an adaptation of the rugby maul. The easiest way to stop it is to maul back (i’ll try and explain in a sec).

All teams so far have failed to stop it because they attack it as a group of individual linemen. No chance. Simply none. The only way to stop it is to actually form a maul and push back in unison. Three lineman on the LOS, two linebackers behind them, and a safety to loock the scrum (or a third LB would be good here).

It’s difficult to explain if you don’t know union or league, but search youtube rugby union rolling maul or rugby league scrum and you’ll get the idea.

Like I said, the tush push is something Philly picked up from a Scottish rugby union player. It’s **easily** stopped, you just have to know how. I’m struggling to believe it’s taken so long tbh…

edit to add: also worth noting that Jordan Mailata is a former front row forward in rugby league (ie he spent his entire youth in the middle of these scrums)…

  18. If I was a coach, I would just instruct the defense to jump offsides and hit the center before they snap the ball. Do like it like 20 times. Surely that will wear down their center. What’s half the distance to the goal penalty going to do? Extend the game for 30 minutes and force NFL to change the rule.

  19. I will never wish for injuries, but Hurts and the Eagles O-line can’t hurt us from the sideline.

**Solution:** Sneak a bunch of legos onto the field. Before the snap, scatter them along the line of scrimmage. At the snap, back up, allow the Eagles players to step on the legos. They will get the 1st down, but at a massive cost of stepping on the legos.

They’ll be sidelined for the remainder of the game and won’t be able to run the tush push as successfully with their backups.

  20. Green Bay stopped it twice in one game last year. Against hurts. You have to fly off the edge and grab him by the waist and pull him backwards. Bosa or Young can do it

  21. Teams should just sign the biggest fattest mofo they can find and when the Eagles are setting up for the tush push, set him right there in front of the ball. Like some 500 pound sumo wrestler or some shit.

  22. Funny how tenuous narratives are spun about Philly fans supporting dirty play and reveling in opponents injuries yet you post this.
