Relax about Carlson

In damn near every post about the team, there’s at least one person complaining about our rookie kicker. So many people freaking out over a few missed kicks, and saying things like “he has one job, there’s no excuse for missing them.” It’s just not true. Hell, look at Crosby’s stats, there are three seasons where he has a lower FG % than Carlson currently does, and two more seasons that were practically the same FG %. You’re all expecting the kid to perform like Justin Tucker in his rookie season. The really funny part being that Tucker’s season FG % is at 80.8 on the season right now, so again, damn near the same as Carlson has right now. So many of you were so quick to write off Love as soon as the team faced any adversity, yet look how he’s bounced back so far? So everyone take a deep breath and relax. Carlson is absolutely doing fine for his rookie season. Cheer the kid on and hope for improvement, constantly talking about him being a problem when he isn’t even a problem just isn’t fair to the kid.

  1. It took Mason Crosby 8 years to miss as many extra points as Anders Carlson has missed in 11 games.

Also comparing his season to Crosby before winter has even hit Green Bay is pretty optimistic.

I don’t think we can judge him at all yet. Wait for a full season.

  2. Why are we comparing him to the worst seasons by great kickers and giving him a pass? He’s never played at the high enough level to earn patience from fans like Crosby did in 2012. He had a good start to the season, but has regressed quickly and I haven’t seen anything to suggest he’s going to improve his play.

  3. Can we stop comparing anyone to seasons from 10+ years ago? Not the argument you think it is.

  4. We’d have an extra dub if the FO had shown the silver fox the respect he deserves and kept him around.

  5. Man 2012 Crosby was such an anomaly, this guy was costing games and people wanted his head. So glad GB didn’t give up on him then because he became so clutch after that.

    Especially against DAL

Don’t give up on Anders, the kid is a rookie growing with the team he’s not doing any better or worse than any of our other rookies

  6. I haven’t broken down the tape because I don’t care enough to, but have all the PAT misses been on Anders? Will Anders get let go after this season and go full Ray Finkle? Laces out, Dan!

  7. Didn’t Ryan Longwell have a very shaky start to his career too?

Regardless. The Vikings moved on from the other Carlson brother too early and suffered. Daniel recovered and is doing just fine. I’m sure Anders will learn from his brother

  8. Not a lot of over lap between LaFluer’s “fuck it, let’s go for it range” and the “4th and 1, back us up 5 yard from a Runyan off sides penalty range” in those numbers

  9. Crosby was 81.4% on his career. Carlson is 78.9% and a rookie. Take away that block where Deguara was a statue and he’s better than everyone’s favorite former kicker. I’m not worried at all about him right now.

  10. Going from Ryan Longwell to Mason Crosby is about as strange and anomalous as going from Favre to Rodgers was. Carlson just might not be the guy, and that’s ok because you can get by just fine with an average kicker. It would not shock me at all if they just move on from him and bring in some new guys this off-season if he doesn’t end the year strong

  11. you’re comparing FG% 1:1 without considering distance of attempts and also Carlson has the worst XP% in the league

  12. Haha be careful here. I compared Reed to JSN few weeks ago and people are only realizing now I’m still right 😈

  13. theres no reason to criticize yet but lets also not go crazy on the hopium. Its only been 11 games and he’s been average at best.

  14. I’m not seeing people saying much about Carlson to be honest. Let alone in nearly every post.

  15. Bears fan here. Cairo santos legit got cut by the chiefs before becoming a good here and he’s been very reliable. Kicker, especially for a young one, is difficult in the nfl. Robbie Gould was also pretty bad his rookie year and was the best kicker I’ve had in my lifetime.

  16. Agreed, why do people always have such high expectations for rookies? I think he looks good so far and will only get better

  17. Rookie kickers miss. Thats part of life. If we were a win now team, then I’d be worries. But we ain’t. Let him work through the growing pains.

Not worried at all. And if he ends up never figuring it out, it’s not hard to find a new kicker.
