  1. I’ll take it. One year and not much money. Would not be surprised if he is a lot closer to his 2022 numbers than 2023. And if he’s crap just DFA him and move on.

  2. Very nice. He gets to stay in NY which he wanted. We get a deal and only one year. And if he returns to form/does well just extendo.

  3. He still throws pretty hard and he’s been elite before. No such thing as a bad one year deal.

Also, I’m gonna trust Stearns’ track record of fixing pitchers or developing them out of nothing in Milwaukee.

Savant considers Severino to be similar to Strider in terms of pitches, velo, movement. This is cope but 👀

  4. I wanted him on a buy low contract like this so I’m fine with it, but only if he’s a 5th starter option by the time the off season is over. Don’t want to have to go into the season with him being a three or even a four.

  5. kinda reminds me of the michael wacha / rick porcello signings from a few years back

1yr lottery ticket. if he’s great, great! if not, then.. see ya

  6. We have a lot of rotation holes to fill, makes sense to make one of them be a high upside reclamation project. I like it.

  7. 1 year at $13 million.

It doesn’t affect 2025’s books (Burnes and Soto are available) and it brings you an innings eater.

I have no issue with this. 2024 is a transition year.

  8. It’s fine. It was inevitable that we signed at least 1 starter like this. Expect an arm or two like this in the bullpen as well. You can’t just sign an entire rotation of proven, bonafide, effective starters.

  9. I look forward to Peterson and Megill taking his slot in the rotation when he’s inevitably on the IL.

  10. A little more than I expected but I like it. I’d fully imagine he’s going to be one of 3 guys we acquire

  11. Senga, Quintana, Severino, Peterson, and Megill 🔥🔥 let’s get Jerad Eickhoff back for a reunion too 😍

  12. The Mets got bad results from paying two guys $40m+ each in 2023.

This contract is pretty decent (one year, little money, under 30-years old, two-time All Star)

  13. Nice 1 year lottery ticket. If it doesn’t work, he won’t be back. Good for a Peterson upgrade.

  14. It’s ridiculously low risk. If he has a good first half, they can always flip him at the deadline for something.

  15. I watched a fair number of Severino outings this past season and he seemed simultaneously cooked and one tiny tweak away from getting good again.

  16. i think we all saw severino coming lol. no one is super thrilled but we need pitching. it’s also a sign of what we all believed, they really are not going full out on 2024.

  17. Don’t hate the idea but that’s a little steep for a guy who may not play much and may be bad when he does
