Cardinals Release TE Zach Ertz

With Musgrave on IR, do you think the Pack should bring in Ertz for the stretch run?

  1. This would actually be a decent signing with Musgrave down. Finally get Jordan some sort of veteran presence in the receiving room.

  2. Not really interested at this point. A couple years ago when they were rumored to be in on him, yes. I’d rather just keep rolling with the young dudes.

  3. Ertz was good for at least a few catches a game before he got hurt. He could be a good role model/teacher for our young TEs

  4. If Pearson can do what Deguara does, which I believe he can, and he’s a step up from Ben Sims, which I believe he is, and there’s a chance Musgrave doesn’t come back this year….then yes, go get him.

  5. We already have one player on the team where his wife is a better athlete than him, we don’t need 2.

No shade at Owens or the amazing women athletes they are lol don’t take this too seriously!

  6. No, I’d keep giving Kraft and Sims reps. Besides Ertz wants to play for a contender and if we’re being realistic, this team is not winning the SB

  7. I doubt Ertz is looking to sign with a non-contender. I’d rather let Kraft get the reps

  8. I’m guessing he goes unclaimed and given the choice he isn’t choosing the Packers unless none of the teams more likely to get a super bowl are interested

  9. Honestly, I want to see what Kraft can do. If we can be successful with Kraft as our TE1 and we roll into next year with two starting caliber TEs I’ll be a very happy cheesehead

  10. He just got released from a dog shit team where he lost his starting job because of drops. Keep him so far away from Green Bay that he never eats cheese again.

  11. If we are serious about a playoff push it wouldn’t be the worst thing just to have an extra guy to throw the football to. Doubt Gute does it but I wouldn’t be pissed if we got him

  12. No.

This year is not about making a push or trying to contend (even if we all agree it’s nice to win and maybe make the playoffs). It’s about getting the young guns experience and building for the next few years – why would you sign a veteran to take snaps away? I could see mayyyybe if he was extremely familiar with LaFleur’s offense and could help coach up the young guys, but only then at the vet minimum.

  13. At this point they’ve made it clear that they are giving the snaps to the young guys to help their development.

This would be counterintuitive as it would take opportunities from them.

We are still in a development year regardless of playoff contention. A move like this would be done for a team that had a chance at a deep post season run.

  14. He hasn’t played in over a month because of injuries.

Even when he was healthy he only broke 50 yards in two games and has a single TD all season.

And if they claim him off waivers instead of waiting until he clears, they’d be inheriting the remainder of his almost $9M salary this year, and almost $8M next year.

  15. A few things before my take on this:

Ertz requested to be released. He only has 2 drops in 43 targets.

    Now, my opinion.

I wouldn’t put a claim on him because I wouldn’t want to take on all that salary. But if he got through waivers and was a FA, I would try to sign for vet minimum since AZ would be paying the rest of his guaranteed money. So that is roughly $300K for another TE. I don’t hate that move. This gives you a better look in 3 TE sets. He’s averaging 6.7 yards a catch which is decent for moving the chains. If he sucks, you cut him. This seems like a low risk high reward possibility. We would likely just have to get past Baltimore. And his wife used to play for Chicago’s NWSL team, soo…

  16. Play the young dudes this year. They’ve committed to seeing who’s got juice, so if they go to waivers to find someone, let’s get a sub 25 UDFA that’s hungry to road grade and also play special teams.

  17. Let’s make a claim!

    Pros
    – 12 mil cap hit in 2024

    – dropsies

    – oft injured due to his old age.

Oh wait, those aren’t pros at all. Silly me.

    What’s Jimmy Graham doing?

  18. I’m relatively unfamiliar with Ertz’s game. How is he as a blocker? I wouldn’t be opposed if he could come in cheap and help teach some blocking. Otherwise I think we let Kraft get the play time experience

  19. No. This is clearly a season to use the young guys as much as possible. Why bring in a washed up TE?

  20. Definitely not. We’ve hitched our wagon to the development of the young guys. Any snaps played by these types of signings comes at the expense of less snaps for our developing guys.

I would rather have the young guys on the field and make mistakes to learn from them than taking them away for a guy that was a mid-season castoff. Yes, I’m aware he asked to be released, but if a guy is that good a team isn’t just going to release him. He’s 33 years old and returning from an ACL injury in 2022.

  21. No. He is a little bit injury prone too. And I would not put the Packers in the “contender” category quite yet. They are playing better, but there is no way we are beating Eagles, Cowboys, 49ers.

This post also screams “Look a free agent that I recognize. Should we sign him?”

  22. Musgrave, Kraft & Sims TE room is stacked! Sims is an elite blocker with glue hands, ever since I seen him run guys over I’ve been a impressed. Guessing we’ll see his name as a playmaker more as he grows. Really can’t ask for better young group.
