  1. I was very high on him coming into the season. I think DDV should take his spot in the starting 5 and let grimes try to play into rhythm off the bench.

  2. He had a minor injury and it’s early in the season and he doesn’t get enough shots a game to get a rhythm. Remember when he banged his knee in the playoffs and still got a steal? DAWG.

Even if we get another pf via trade and that trickles down and squeezes out some minutes for a guard we shouldn’t just be eager to trade grimes for nothing. We need to give him some confidence and let him get some shots up imo. He should be getting more than 4 shots a game. Give him that green light long leash

  3. Grimes doesn’t need to score to effect the game. He is playing with the starters and obviously loses shots to Brunson, Randle, and RJ. He needs to take his shots when they’re there and play defense. He draws the toughest matchup on d every night. Just let the dude play. The team is winning and we’re heavy at guard/forward so his minutes are going to be limited. All he needs to do is play defense and take open shots when he gets them.

  4. I still want IQ providing the spark off the bench, but I’m all for starting DDV over Grimes. Especially with his chemistry with Brunson going back to college.

  5. Either bench him for IQ or DDV or trade him for Burks. Enough is enough. We can’t keep doing this “but his defense!” thing with him, shit is starting to give me Frank Ntilikina flashbacks. That’s also not good enough especially when IQ and DDV can offer the same kinda defensive punch he can, but they actually have a willingness to shoot the ball, or generally make the right decision offensively.

  6. I say give him time. He didn’t become a terrible player all of a sudden, he’s just in a slump. He’ll be back.

  7. I like many others was always bullish on grimes over the last few years but what I’ve seen so far for almost a quarter of the season is disheartening. He’s just not as good as we think he is. His defense is vastly overrated and while he has a beautiful shooting form, he’s always clinking his shots.

If he can’t provide value on either side of the floor, he should not be getting a lot of minutes, period. I’m tired of this subs obsession over certain players and making excuses for them. DDV has been much better and has better chemistry with Brunson, Randle and Big Mitch. I think he bring that energy we lack in the first unit. Thibs needs to make a rotation change similar to last year and we can go on a big run hopefully.

  8. He needs the ball in his hands more to unlock his confidence and that won’t be happening in NY. It’s time to package him up. All of this “doesn’t need the ball to be effective” shit ya’ll been spinning is straight chat. Free Grimes.

  9. I would like to see them use some time in the regular season to get him more minutes with the 2nd unit. I think he has room to be a better dribbler and driver (which would prob help his shooting rhythm) but there isn’t a lot of opportunity to work on that in the first unit without forgoing a better offensive option.

  10. He clearly doesn’t have a role in this offense other than to be an extra pass. I’m not sure why, since Divo does the same thing but takes shots.

Knicks should be looking to trade him while he still has value

  11. he needs to be moved to the 2nd unit not as punishment, but to allow him to get going. cutting his minutes is not gonna help him figure out how to be more aggressive and involved on offense.

  12. I just wish this guy was at least 6’6-6’7.

Question marks on his ability to put the ball on the floor, defense is strong mainly against smaller 1s and 2s, can he make shots anywhere else than catch and shoot attempts?

These are his limitations / question marks atp in his career. It’s still very very early in the season.

When he’s hitting 3s at a high clip, all of this is forgotten. Motor is unquestionable, but defense is definitely overstated.

If he can’t improve in other areas, the team needs him to hit 3s at near 40% on a high volume. Otherwise I’d sell him while his values still relatively high. Really depends what the Knicks believe the chances are of him hitting his ceiling as a player, and what that ceiling is.

  13. No thoughts, dude has the skills effort and attitude, he’ll figure it out. The team is winning, no need for a change.

He’s just starting year 3, let’s check back like 50 games from now.

  14. I say let him run with the 2nd team off the bench. Quick, Hart, RJ, Hartenstein and him. This would be able to feature him as a shooter and also the offensive would ne more open for him to slash to the basket. He would be a much better utilized player when there is movement and fluidity to the offense.
The starting lineup is not the best place for him to use skills.

  15. He’s in a slump, for sure. That doesn’t mean Divo isn’t a better starter. Grimes will work his way out of it but his minutes need to be reduced at the very least.

  16. Struggling big time. Seems like they may pivot and regret it. 2 years he’ll shoot 40% consistently with potent defense. Still afraid the front office thinks they are closer than they are

  17. he’s playing bad and his minutes / usage is being taken down

we still ride w our guys

    pause
