5 reasons why Brock Purdy is the MVP this year( and it’s not even close)

  1. He’ll have a stronger case for it if he wins this week. Personally, I’m indifferent about end of season awards (unless it’s Super Bowl champion) but I’d love to see my boy get that recognition.

He’s playing very well and far above what any would’ve thought of when he was drafted.

He’d also be a lock for Comeback Player of the Year but, you know….Damar Hamlin exists…and thankfully because that was close.

  2. Am I the only one who doesn’t care if Purdy gets MVP or not? Obviously if he gets it, that’s wonderful, but I really don’t care about anything other than being super bowl champs

  3. Purdey is actually 6th in terms of live odds, some books have him at 7th behind Mccaffrey which is probably more accurate

  4. Either way he’s proved himself to be an elite starter in the league. He doesn’t need a popularity contest to give him anything.

  5. To say it’s not close is silly. Dak and Hurts are putting up great years as well. It’s gonna come down to signature wins. If Brock plays well Sunday and we win, it strengthens his case. A loss probably eliminates him from conversation. Same for the other two. They need signature wins.

  6. It’s actually fairly close… With Dak. Hurts is up there too but clearly #3 currently. The problem is the MVP being a QB award most the time and I’d say CMC is best player on the Niners and not Brock. Hard to win an MVP when you’re not the MVP on your own team…and that’s not a knock on Purdy, it’s just that CMC is that good.

There’s still a lot of football left, I never like trying to decide MVP in the middle of the season.

  7. 6 reasons..

    Quest for 6

    7 reasons…

He should have won ROTY last year even with his small sample size, it was so impressive that Mr irrelevant came in and played better than many of the most recent rookie QBs

    8 reasons…

    I put $50 on him at +5000 odds week 2 or 3…

Time to make a lot of magic happen, take down Hurt & Lamar, take us to the #1 seed, take that SB, and continue to be our amazing QB for the future.

    In BCB we trust, MVPurdy!

  8. If we win out with wins over the Cowboys and Eagles, I can see it. If he loses to Hurts, no chance.

  9. He set us up to win against Cleveland, but I truly want to see him and Shanahan get a late 4th quarter win.

  10. Purdy is doing amazing but it’s hard to see him as MVP considering some other ongoing performances this year.

    But he’s doing really well

  11. I don’t care, I don’t think the team cares, Brock made it clear that he pays no heed to the MVP talks. As long as we win the big game I doubt the team cares about anything else.

Also the 49ers are a victim of their star power we have too many big names and despite Purdy performing at an elite almost unreal and definitely unexpected level people are always going to divide the credit unfortunately.

I also do think CMC deserves it more, he’s on track to have over 2000 yards from scrimmage, 17+ TDs averaging 5 yards per carry, that’s history for an RB.

Edit: I think hurts is the leader for MVP odds rn, for purdy to over take that he would need to put on a clinic vs the eagles, similarly for dak, he’s playing well but to overtake hurts he need to absolutely tear apart their defence next week, however for hurts to win he just needs to keep doing what he is doing, he doesn’t need to do anything out of the ordinary for him at this point.

  12. I’m not really invested in him being crowned MVP right now. Just win and develop and keep proving people wrong and he’ll get it some day.

  13. Disagree that “it’s not even close”. Hurts is making the Cam Newton case of being the Quarterback of a 1-loss team. Also helps he’s a big part of their resiliency and clutching out wins. It’s his to win. If the Eagles lose some important games in this back stretch with Hurts playing, his stats won’t keep him in the conversation.

Dak is making a stats case for MVP and his case only works if you (1) don’t adjust for the level of competition he’s played against, and (2) ignore Purdy’s existence. He’s gotta show he can keep it up in this back stretch, as they go from the one of the easiest schedules through 12 weeks to the 2nd hardest in the final 6.

Since 2010, the leader in adjusted EPA/play has won MVP except twice. Peyton was the leader in 2012 and finished 2nd in MVP voting to Adrian Peterson (stat phenom season). Palmer was the leader in 2015 and finished 2nd in MVP voting to Cam (1-loss team). Cam was 8th in adjusted EPA/play that season. The Panthers also played a historically soft schedule that season.

Right now, Purdy is #1, Dak #2, with Purdy having an efficiency gap like Matt Ryan had on Dak in 2016.
