> The Angels’ projected luxury-tax payroll for next season is $164.2 million, according to FanGraphs, well below the $237 million threshold for 2024. Probably the only way they will come close to the threshold is if they sign Ohtani. But few in the industry expect him to stay with his original team.
Around $73 million open. Thats enough for a $50million/year contract and a $25million/year. get them both Arte. Stop being cheap
So I’m guessing the final month of Stassi’s contract for the 2023 season got us just under?
Hallelujah! Arte doesn’t have to pay the luxury tax!
I don’t blame folks for being excited about saving money to spend on Shohei, but I have to ask: when has Shohei ever given the impression that he’s in it for the money?
Dude would play for Jimmy John’s coupons if it meant he got to compete for a WS title every year.
Angels aren’t that ticket and we had our chance. I know it sounds like I’m being unnecessarily harsh or a doomer but I respect the hell out of Shohei for his love of the game and would love for him to resign here. No way to know until it’s done, though, so I’m just speculating.
