[Jones] Another nugget from the morning — the Pirates are monitoring the market around Jack Flaherty and are interested in bringing him in on a short term deal should he be unable to find a longer commitment.

  1. I thought he would be a guy we could bring in for 3/30-36m and be a Nova type #4/5 innings eater. Then the market went dumb and he will probably get nearly 50m which the Pirates shouldn’t do.

This market and the loss of Oviedo is making this a tough offseason.

  2. I know there are pitching prospects on the way, but they should bring in a guy like Flaherty long-term because one or two of the prospects probably won’t put it all together. We saw what happened to Ortiz, Priester, and Contreras. The long-term deal really eases the pain from that situation if, say, Solometo can’t be a starter in Pittsburgh.

  3. Not unexpected, but “monitoring the market” on one of the worst FA options available and saying we won’t even commit money unless HIS price drops is so Pirates and hilarious.

Truly the definition of a poverty franchise
