  1. Normally I’d say I don’t but it cause nothing gets out of AAs office.

But Shohei might be too big a secret even for AA. There is zero chance it stays contained no matter who is looking at him.

  2. I’m still waiting for the double signing of Ohtani/Yamamoto to drop. And I will dream good every night until that’s taken away from me.

  3. My biggest takeaway here is, even if it’s not on Shohei, there is plenty of money to spend.

  4. He’s not pitching for the entire 2024 season. That seems like stupid money for a DH.

  5. If there was any inside baseball, pun intended, of why Warrent Buffet bought into the Braves stock, this is my hope and dream of it actually happening.

  6. The money shohei generates is enormous, easily the highest value generating player today. If we had to pay 55M per year, he probably (totally guessing) makes back 20 of that for the team in views, sales, etc.

I went to the Rockies angels series in Denver, don’t have numbers but the place was packed, likely because of shohei.

  7. RF Acuña
    DH Ohtani
    1B Olson
    3B Riley
    2B Albies
    C Murphy
    SS Arcia
    LF Kelenic
    CF Harris

Is there a better lineup in franchise history?

  8. lol fake news. Braves front office don’t leak even less Othani camp since he wants to his free agency under the radar .

Can the Braves afford him ? Sure, the battery and the ballpark just print money these days. Also this dude contract will pay for itself since he is an advertising machine.

I still don’t see him in dodgers blue when this saga is over. The media created the dodgers fantasy because they think it makes sense.

  9. I would be hyped about a 3 or 4 year contract, but I don’t think a 35, 36, 37 yr old Ohtani is going to be anywhere near worth the money he will be making the second half of his 10 year term, wherever he lands. He will still be good at one facet of the game, but I doubt he will be a two-way star as he currently is.

  10. The Braves are a public company and unlike so many others are willing to make moves if the return is worth it. Ohtani is the only player who will 100% pay for himself. If you can bring him in and trade Ozuna we’re talking $26.5m net change @ $45m/yr. If you can back load the contract (perhaps due to the TJ recovery) then the hit to this year’s payroll could be more palatable.

There’s also significant money coming off the books next year. Fried, Ozuna, and Minter account for about $50m by themselves and Ohtani fills two of the three roles. With so much of the lineup locked up for the foreseeable future, he fits in an increased payroll environment.
