[Olney] Only Shohei Ohtani seems to know where he’s going to sign, leaving everyone else to guess. One player agent thinks he’s going back to the Angels, because of money, sure, but also because he is devoted to routine and no organization would offer him more autonomy than the Angels.

  1. That autonomy, comfort, homeliness is going to be key. Shohei felt a connection here first. He, like Trout, are so great they throw off all the traditional team building calculus. Winning is the most important thing but I don’t want to see another goddamn team on the back of his baseball card.

Also let’s be real, Shohei looks better in red.

  2. I’m not allowing myself to feel anything yet but if he resigned I’d spray champagne in my living room

  3. Haha in other words “here’s all the money and you can do anything you want! Just please don’t leave us!!”

  4. Between this and what Washington said, I am starting to believe.

I don’t want to have hope.

  5. angels optimist here. zero chance he resigns. i think that industry insiders arent used to people being quiet and they’re being quiet because Shohei requested it. if they’re not quiet, then it reduces their chance of him signing

  6. I think it’s dumb when the media says “he wants to win”. Obviously he wants to. 99 percent want to win. I don’t see any team other than the Dodgers as a legitimate choice in regard to adhering to the “wanting to win” category. Giants, Jays, Cubs etc are all just as much of a gamble as the Angels. You could argue the Jays have more of a chance but not long term with Bo and Vlad likely testing free agency. It’s sort of a perfect storm in the Angels favor which is why a lot of media outlets are pivoting suddenly.

  7. “I want to play for a contender” is the quote/misquote that baseball “journalists” and Redditers have decided to run with for the past year and spin it however which way that fits their own narrative. People have used shoheis quiet nature as an opportunity to keep a bland news cycle exciting. I have been tellling everyone in this sub all year that shohei wasn’t going anywhere only to be downvoted or talked down to. It’s always been the obvious choice. Don’t let Buster Olney shape the way you see Shoheis decision. Just listen to the man and stop listening to the media.
