Does anyone really think we can do better than Thibs?

  1. just because he’s the best coach we’ve had in a loooong time, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t mix in more off-ball movement. but give thibs a lot of credit for making some of the adjustments we’ve been clamoring for. his in-game adjustments seem better, and he does more mixing and matching lineups from night to night as opposed to hockey subs, where the starters would mostly play with starters, and bench would play with bench.

  2. I think Thibs is fine and his reputation smeared by dumb takes from guys like Bill Simmons claiming he runs guys into the ground, when in reality

    – Luol Deng played 15 seasons in the NBA, and IIRC wanted to play more.

    – Taj Gibson, whom some in this sub lovingly call him unc, can still ball. Let’s be honest, we can actually use the guy.

    – D-Rose, the poster child of guys “ran into the ground” by Thibs, is a starter in the NBA at age 35, more than a decade after he torn his ACL.

Edit: of course I forgot Jimmy Butler.

All that said, I think putting Thibs in a list with those other dudes is doing Thibs a disservice.

  3. Those were some rough years prior to Miller and Thibs. Boy oh boy, my PTSD kicking back up.

  4. I’ve grown to appreciate Thibs more this year than any other year and while we definitely can do better (these coaches are out there, even if they’re not available/attainable at the moment), he’s a great coach who has built an identity for this team and brought a lot of fun to the city these last few years.

However – can he please draw up some better ATO plays? The amount of times we call a timeout and then dribble the ball for 18 seconds before throwing up a contested three is infuriating.
