Hi. This is Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions (the folks who invented Defensive Runs Saved). While we wait for deals, thought I’d share a graphic from a colleague …
A look at shortstops, comparing their Good Fielding Plays to their Defensive Misplays & Errors
**Good Plays** are what they sound like – web gem type plays, but also things like keeping a ball on the infield to prevent someone from taking an extra base.
**Misplays & Errors** are plays scored as errors and also those in which the fielder did something leading to a negative consequence (for example- you don’t get an error for failing to complete a DP, but you could get a Defensive Misplay)
A few takes …
– Elly De La Cruz in a class by himself (many great plays, many mistakes).
– You wanna be Carlos Correa/Miguel Rojas on this graph
– Bobby Witt ⬆️Tim Anderson ⬇️
(Witt this year – 29 good plays, 35 mistakes; Witt 2022 – 17 and 37)
Bodes well for his future. I feel like the x axis is the intangible, and the y axis is the mental/correctable
Reminds me of Elly’s offensive profile. Huge peaks and valleys. The good news is this shows that just like his offense, the potential is there.
