Kristaps Porzingis Gets Real About Luka Doncic And The Mavs

KP hadn’t been humbled yet. That’s what I get out of this. He was the man in NY and came in thought he was the man here.
Rolled his eyes at the analytics and thought he was as good as Luka.
Nothing wrong with that. He was a kid pretty much. Luka is a kid.
These things happen. Still the right swing to make and still the right trade to move on.
Great talent and I wish him the best.
Ha KP told Luka to stop acting like a baby lol. Also confirmed that Carlisle told KP to stand in the corner. Luka and KP just didn’t like each other. Man I wish it would’ve worked out.
Wish this interview was better. KP still so eloquent with the media. Wish jj asked him if he thought it would have worked out in Dallas if he was healthy. It’s obvious his time in Dallas at least humbled him to the point to work on his flaws (dribbling, post game, etc.).
To his credit, he’s improved across the board all of his shortcomings. Sometimes I wonder how this version of KP would look with luka. But in this league, you only get a short time to prove if you’re a number one, a number two, etc. He’s never getting the chance to be a number 2 again and i think it was clear pretty early that he probably not a championship level number 2 to begin with at that point in his career.

It’s a shame KP tore his miniscus against the Clippers in the 2020 series, he and Luka played extremely well together in the 2nd half of the 19-20 season.

I am convinced that they make the WCF in the Bubble if not for KP injuring his miniscus. Unfortunately he never really regained his mobility until last season.

Haralabos only used analytics to make the offense more efficient rather than using it to help make players better. KP had inefficient post ups. Instead of taking that data point and saying we’re gonna throw away KP post ups, they should’ve asked themselves how they could make those post ups more efficient. That was one of the failures of the staff that led to the whole issue with the offense. There were a lot of easy ways KP post ups could be more efficient some of which he has implemented in the past couple years that could’ve helped us while he was here.
At this point, everything pre-Nico has to just be written off. The stink of Haralabos and late career Donnie Nelson set this franchise way back. Nico is pulling this thing out of the ditch as best he can, but man it’s mind boggling how badly this team was managed in Luka’s early years.
Just wasn’t meant to be. He’s in the best situation for him in Boston.

I don’t understand your point. I understand his stats when he landed in DC before they shut him down. If I read between the lines, it seems like you want to say he was always this good in Dallas and never got the opportunity to showcase that? And that he’s never improved since leaving Dallas?
The bottom line, despite turmoil, bad fit, coaching issues, analytics, whatever, is that if he had been able to stay healthy we would’ve been great. That’s what it comes down to.
I mean yeah sadly you can’t seriously analyze his time with the Mavs by starting the conversation with “besides health…” because I think that was about 90% of the reason it didn’t work.
The very few and short periods when he was actually healthy for a while and we could get some rythm with the whole team most of the times it went well. For instance the season we traded him he was playing botherline all star level (that’s why when the trade happened everyone here had a meltdown).
