John Henry spending money elsewhere should anger Red Sox fans

Henry shelled out a massive contract recently to Erik Karlsson. Why won’t he spend when it comes to the Red Sox?

  1. Yeah we didn’t pay Trevor Story or Devers just recently…… this spending money narrative has to end.

  2. We don’t even know what’s going to happen the rest of the offseason.

    Articles like this are premature.

  3. Wait until Spring Training to judge spending. If they stay under the CBT threshold again, then I can understand being upset. We have no idea how this offseason is gonna go

Frivolous spending doesn’t win Championships in MLB anymore.

  4. He didn’t hand out a massive contract to Erik.

Erik has a massive contract and they moved the salary necessary to take him on board. They still play within the salary cap that all of the league uses.

It’s not like they just increased the penguins cap or something.

Really hard to argue over spending when there’s a hard cap and penguins usually hang around the cap limit.

  5. “Henry shelled out a massive contract recently to Erik Karlsson” that isn’t even remotely true. They didn’t sign that contract San Jose did who was desperately trying to move it. Pittsburgh shipped out Petry (6.25 million) and Granlund (5.00 million) which combined equal the Karlsson contract. Monetary wise not a single thing was changed

  6. I’ll answer why not. He has limited cash. The Red Sox are his cash cow funding other investments. Expect him to bleed the Sox and invest just enough to keep fans in the stands. Sorry folks.

  7. Lot of people here don’t have a tenth graders understanding of basic statistics. The Dodgers didn’t flame out in the playoffs because they spent poorly. They flamed out because the best teams in baseball win 65% of their games and it’s hard to win three series in a row against other good teams. And because Clayton Kershaw turns into a pumpkin in October but that’s another discussion.

The Padres basically ran way under expectation. Their RD was 120 better than Arizona. You really gonna tell me Arizona was a better team last year?

Spending money allows you to pay better players. This isn’t nuclear physics. Yeah, some teams spend poorly, and others spend better. But spending is generally correlated with success. Last year 6/12 playoff teams were in the top 10 payrolls. Two years ago the top 5 spending teams made the playoffs. This isn’t a coincidence

  8. FSG spends more money on the Red Sox yearly than any franchise they own. What the F is up with this sub?

  9. To make the fan base feel better, there are literally dozens of similar articles for Liverpool supporters.

  10. i’m pissed at ownership, but let’s not compare hockey contracts to baseball contracts, the highest paid player in the NHL makes 16 million per year. that’s *nothing* in MLB
