[Heyman] Cardinals ‘linked’ to Yamamoto along with 10 other teams

Jon says currently the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees are the perceived front runners for Yamamoto (who would’ve guessed)

The other teams are 7 teams are

Red Sox
Cubs
Angels
Phillies
Giants
Tigers
Dbacks

It’s not the greatest of news but it seems to me that the FO is actually trying, if just a little.

  1. Other important bits I left out:

Cost could be in the range of 300m

Yankees currently preparing to meet Yamamoto tomorrow

  2. If there is any chance he wants to play here with Noot I say they should just go all in to get him. Noot and Yamamoto would capture a lot of Japanese fans even if they will still be rooting for the Dodgers too. Signing him would basically print money for the DeWitts

  3. Gonna call it now…not the tigers, cubs, Phils, or D-backs. Cardinals don’t like spending money so they’re automatically out. Red Sox could be the underdog team to out bid everyone. Theres been some grumbling with ohtani’s contract because its back end heavy, tax implications and the dodgers are in a trade with the Yankees to keep Joe Kelly on the 40 man. That just leaves, Yankees, Mets, and angels.

  4. At one point I thought we maybe had a 1% chance to sign this guy depending on how things shook out with the others. Then I saw a pic of him standing between Ohtani and Yu Darvish. He is a lot smaller than those two. A lot smaller.

Bill and Mo love tall pitchers. Love them. Pitching downhill is a big deal and part of their preferred method. I remember going to ST and seeing Carp and Waino just looking like giants compared to other players. It’s a thing here and always will be.

So I dropped that % to 0. Because that’s the reality. Don’t expect 2 professional baseball guys to spend that kind of money on a player with a build they don’t like.

I’m actually alright with that. Still want somebody to pair with Gray on top of the rotation. And the only way will be trade. So that’s what I am hoping for.

  5. Come on, guys. Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox.

Just put it on repeat for another 50 years. Some things never change and baseball offseasons are one of them.

    Say it with me

    Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox.

    Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox.

    Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox.

  6. Thank God we’re fully confident that the Cardinals are not one of the teams that things have gotten a little bit too rich for.

  7. Unfortunately Haymen is not a reliable source these days. He get some things write but he’s had some major mistakes. Take his reports with a grain of salt.

  8. Tbh, if this is true, I’m just glad they’re at least still considering adding another top SP. I don’t expect to have a chance at Yamamoto but I really hope they can get someone solid to pair with Gray at 1/2.
