  1. This is what I expected to hear….no changes mid-season. I am certain Barry’s contract will not be renewed going forward though.

  2. I’m watching the press conference, I don’t think “yeah our defense is shit, but it’s not just them because our offense is shit too.” is the defense LeFleur thinks it is.

  3. Listing to the press conference live it really sounds like Barry is out after this season with MLF openly questioning Barry’s coverage calls and saying he’ll be more involved with defensive calls and communication going forward.

  4. Yeah and 2 weeks ago the Chargers plan was for Staley to remain head coach. Plans can change.

  5. Dude better be fucking gone Black Monday (or the day after our last playoff game) because I can’t even stomach watching three more weeks of this shit. At least the Panthers offense is so inept I don’t even think Barry could give it life.

  6. Expected. Now, I fully expect him to be let go at the end of the season because his contract is up. If he’s brought back, MLF should be fired immediately.

  7. Yesterday, The Bucs’ first offensive play was a pass to a wide open receiver and it picked up 11 yards.

Meanwhile, our entire secondary was full-speed sprinting back 20+ yards as the ball was snapped.

Hard to believe in “miscommunication” when it happened from the first play to the last.

  8. He wont get fired. Pretty sure his contract is up after the year. That’d be funny if they resigned him though.

  9. I’d guesstimate he wouldn’t be “officially” relieved in any capacity until the Packers are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

  10. As long as he’s gone after the year, I think it ultimately matters very little who leads this defense for the remaining three games. I think we as fans tend to overvalue heads on pikes as a motivator, especially when there’s not an obvious replacement in waiting to hand the reins to. Still, it would have felt good to see.

The right time to fire Joe Barry was last offseason. The next best time is any time in the next month. Anything beyond that, and the talk of LaFleur on the hot seat go from the wild hyperbole they are now to very real.

  11. The other thing I wonder if Barry knows he’s done and is just a place holder now does the defense get even worse or does he just say fuk it im going to blitz what do I have to lose.

  12. Im in a deep fantasy league and will have Thielen going next week in the semi-final. I expect big things lol.

  13. The amount of people that expected a firing today and are now reee’ing to fire LaFleur in this thread is baffling. There are 3 games left, maybe 4. LaFleur is gonna ride it out, let Barry’s contract run out, and clean house on the defensive side. This was expected.

  14. The defensive coaching staff is so poor, there literally is no one qualified to take the interim tag. The only logical candidate would possible be Mongomery and it’s not like he’s don a stellar job coaching either. Lose out these 3 games, get higher draft picks and make a run next year Barryfree.

  15. This is unfortunately the only smart play to the end of the season. Replace him now with someone on the staff who either is successful merely because Joe is gone and that stint ruins our possibility for a quality successor or the defense fails so miserably that there is some sort of regression for the young players.

  16. It’s simple really. MLF brings in a guy who he’s worked with, probably gets on well with, trusts, believes in, etc. We get that especially since he inherited Pettine. But, MLF equally needed to realize that JB is not a fit for us. I’m glad he is, because if he was still a staunch supporter then they’d both be out of a job by Spring.

  17. Reminds me a lot of two years ago where special teams was a nightmare and LaFleur wouldn’t do anything about it, until we lost to Niners at partly due to horrible special teams. And now this year he is telling fans he’s okay with horrible defense the rest of the year even if it costs us the playoffs. Same crap, different year. I understand why he chooses to do that at the end of the year, but you can’t tell me the morale of the defensive players is very high. I don’t know that it would change much, but I know doing nothing won’t change anything. At least it could boost morale and they could rally around the interim and maybe that would be enough to get us through the next 3 games. Just sitting here watching the ship sink, seeing the gaping hole, and refusing to try and put anything on it to patch it up is extremely disappointing.

  18. Without a doubt MLF’s worst decision as head coach.

Anybody on that 0-16 team should never get a job again. Meanwhile Barry remains our coordinator through mostly down seasons.

He has to have blackmail on people, it’s the only thing that makes sense.
