Wouldn’t mind going after Polanco for 2b … signed through 24 with a team option for 25

  1. meh, I think we should reserve trading for players who really move the needle.

Does Polanco really provide anything at 2B that Valdez wont? Polanco is going to be a 2-3 WAR guy, I’d imagine Valdez can be that if we teach him how to field a ground ball.

  2. He would certainly be helpful to have on offense, and he can function as a right-handed bat whenever needed because he’s a split-hitter. The extra year of team control and cheapness is a big bonus which can allow us to fully develop Yorke if he’s still the long-term plan at Second.

On the flip side, he does have an injury history, and defensively, an area of great need for us, he’s not good.

If we were able to get him for the right price, he’s worth a shot, but I wouldn’t give up too many guys if the Twins asking price went too high.

  3. I’d rather trade for Drury. Better bat, better defender at 2B, probably costs less, and doesn’t have an injury history like Polanco does.

  4. I don’t understand why so many fans seem reluctant to fix the lineup and just insist on “letting the kids play.” Polanco has had a 124 and 119 WRC+ the last two seasons, with 33 and 16 homers (only played 100 games this year). I have a hard time seeing Valdez putting up anything close to those numbers

I have similar thoughts to the outfield, we can’t just rely on Abreu/Duran/Rafaela

  5. I can’t be the only one who thinks we should move 1 or more of our long relief failed starter guys in Houck/Whitlock/Kutter/Pivetta to a team that sees starter potential. Our team is full of valued assets but doesn’t function as a roster. Move the starter purgatory arms for bats then move bats/prospects for real starters.

  6. Why we trading ANY assets for marginal players…

    Polanco.. Drury.. no thanks

Rather just play a journeyman or Valdez/Reyes
