  1. “Norm Bass once pitched in the major leagues and struck out Mickey Mantle. He once dated Aretha Franklin. He is enshrined in the U.S. Table Tennis Hall of Fame.
    Oh, and he also played in one game for the Denver Broncos.
    Bass started at safety for the Broncos in the 1964 opener against the New York Jets at Shea Stadium. He also kicked off to start the game.

    “I thought I was going to play in the NFL for 15 years,’’ Bass said.

    But, no, he was cut several days later and never got into another pro game.

    Bass is one of 15 players to have appeared in just one game for the Broncos from their first season of 1960 through 2017, and it was the only game of their pro careers.

    So why might 2017 be a good cut-off?”
