When are we going to acknowledge Aho is on pace to be one of the best goal scorers of all time?

I get that he’s not the most flashy and he’s yet to crack 40 but he has consistently produced every year to the point he’s averaging over 31 goals a season through 7 completed seasons.

That number has only continued to go up as he has put up 35+ goals 3 of the last 4 years (Covid being the one he didn’t)

[Currently his goals per game ranks him 89th all time](https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/records/nhl-players-all-time-goals-per-game-leaders.html) that is ahead of guys like Mackinnon who just hit 300 goals.

[He also moved back into the top 10 goal scorers since his rookie season.](https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask?q=most+goals+since+2016-2017) So there currently is only 9 players league wide with more goals than him in that time frame.

There’s a real chance he could join the very exclusive club of 600 goal scorers if he can maintain his current consistency. With Rod’s system focusing on keeping guys in shape and his less than physical nature he is taking the steps necessary.

  1. In terms of all time I would consider top 50 the start of that group. Aho would make it into the top 50 before the end of his next deal at his current pace of 31 a year.

He would need to get his rate up to 32.5 a year to pass into the top 40 before the end of his next deal which is also completely possible.

  2. He would’ve hit 40 easily a few years ago if that stupid ass virus could’ve waited a couple months. Probably would’ve last season too if he didn’t get hurt in December. Still think he will at least a few times in his career.

  3. Because it’s a ludicrously homer statement.

The conversation of “best goal scorers of all time” is usually relegated to around 10 players at an absolute maximum. If you want to argue that Aho is on pace to be one of the best, you have to also acknowledge that Guentzel, Rantanen, Kyle Connor, and Kucherov are just some of the guys that project even higher than him – and that’s just among active players. Including retired players, as you usually do when talking about the “best x of all time” there’s a bunch of dudes you’ve never heard of who put up similar or better goals per game over much lengthier careers.

He is a great goal scorer, and in a few years should be unquestionably the best that the *Hurricanes* have ever had, but he’s nowhere close to the “all-time” conversation. And that’s not a knock against him; the amount of active NHLers who are can be counted on one hand.

  4. I have no doubt he could end up being the best Hurricane of all time. He’s a great player, and definitely a strong player across the league. However, I don’t currently see him being an all-time league great player. Who’s to say he doesn’t turn up another gear the next few years, and then maybe it might happen. I would love to see it.

Just watching most other teams in the league, there are many other players who are on a much stronger pace to Crack that top 50 all time list.
