Ooft. Wasn’t expecting them to actually do it. Looks like it will be an interesting offseason!
Wonder how Russ feels about it.
Can someone smart explain to me the contract/dead cap? Seems like on paper it makes the most sense to keep him in 24 then cut him for less of a penalty
If anyone remembers Brett Rypien’s starts last year, he ran the *offensive scheme* better than Russell.
Not that he was a better QB, but he actually ran the system.
Payton wants that
Edit: iirc that was Jeudy’s best game in part because he was getting thrown to **on time**
Gonna be rough if Stidham comes out and ignites the offense
the most expensive back up in the league
Welp. Makes for an interesting offseason.
Stidham is actually surprisingly competent – just interesting because it seems like Payton cares more about next season than trying to sneak into the playoffs
Wow. Seems like this means they’re seriously considering moving on from him this off-season, no?
What a pathetic move. When we still have a chance at playoffs?
I liked Russ at times but I’m excited to see what this team can do the last two weeks and what moves we make this off-season.
Everyone in this sub said this wasn’t going to happen lol
Well boys, back to the carousel!
I think higher of Stidham than most so I am curious at how it works. Just sucks that Russ didn’t work out because I always liked him even though I hated Seattle.
Well I guess that answers that.
He gone
I’m done with this team, trash all around
Chargers game is probably the best game to do this. Chargers look beyond pathetic and after dropping the patriots game last week, you have to see what you got.
If Russ gets hurt it complicates his contract.
I still gotta ask what the fuck the GM was thinking signing Russ without seeing him play. Did hackjob just hype him up so much the GM bought?
Idk. But it’s clear Payton doesn’t like Russ as his QB. Stidham showed something when he came in for a hurt Carr, let’s see if Stidham running things suddenly improves the offense or not.
It is time.
Whelp, looks like Russ will be leaving pretty soon then.
Let’s ride?
That’s it for Russ. It’s been a disappointing ride🫡
Wow, this is a pretty big move benching a QB that makes what Russ does when the playoffs are still mathematically possible. However, I don’t think I’d argue against it. Russ’s trade and signing is officially a disaster with this move. (I mean we all knew that, but now it’s being admitted)
Jared stidham is trash too, but I’m glad they are showing signs that they are ready to turn the page regardless of cap implications
I feel sad for Russ but it is a good move. Back to looking for a new qb this offseason
Man I’m honestly not a fan of this decision at all. Russ actually played pretty damn good against the Patriots when he was allowed to operate the up-tempo offense. And I really don’t see any way we could possibly upgrade from him in the off-season without getting into rebuild territory. But I’ll trust Payton to make the right decision.
The Russ era couldn’t have gone any worse. We got a few spectacular plays, but no signature games or consistency. He was a player I loved watching in college and in Seattle. It seemed like a great move at the time. I wish it would’ve worked out.
I have a feeling George Paton won’t be far behind.
Well fuck for my first broncos game too…
On one hand I get it, on the other when you’re not eliminated from postseason contention and basically say you’re tossing the season, I wonder how that’ll go over with the players.
