  1. Look at all those braves fools. Why the hell would you play such a physical sport that has ice and blades without any sort of head and neck protection? Brave, truly brave but stupid. I shudder at playing goalie without any head/ face protection.

  2. For all you "he could never have done that today" naysayers, Gretzky won the scoring title one year (1085-86) by the widest margin (vs number of points from the #2 scorer) than any athlete in any professional sport. Gretzky had 215 points – next closest 141. That's more than 50% MORE POINTS than the next best player. Has that ever happened anywhere ever?

  3. Don Cherry was calling that game. SportsNet a few years ago fired him for calling-out fans who disrespected Canada's soldiers and Canada's great Western values that are what EVERYONE loves, but that many refuse to admit they love over the other destructive cultures of the world.

Why else would people flee those cultures to cling to the promise of Western powerhouses like the US and Canada?

So, yes, here's to one of the great coaches of NHL history, great TV personalities marketing the game to millions of fans for decades, and to a strong man who refused to stay quiet when resentful malcontents tried to further erode the very values their actions support in reality.

Shame on anyone, including the NHL executives, who allow the fringe, hypocritical, minority of reactionary resentful souls to plant seeds of their evil ideology into the NHL's branding, copy, and messaging.

You, the NHL, dare use his voice to celebrate a great moment in hockey history, as you have yet to defend Don Cherry when some turned against him unjustly and took his career from him.

  4. It is easy to say look at the goaltending but to say that discredits all of the other players. There were some legendary players in the 80โ€™s. One of the very best and severely underrated was Mike Bossy and none of these guys came close to Wayne. The only other guy who finally came along to dominate was Mario. For these two getting 4 or 5 points a game was nothing.
