Bleacher Report Trade Proposal From Pels for Lauri Markkanen

Thoughts? I would prefer to hold on to Hawkins.

  1. I think I’d do this. But I would try to keep the Lakers pick. I just like having their pick

  2. So were starting CJ, BI, Lauri, Zion and Olynyk? Or CJ, Herb, BI, Lauri and Zion? Both options lose against the current lineup imo

  3. I don’t really like this trade, but really all it made me do is remember when we could’ve had Lauri for just Lonzo, and the consensus was that would’ve been a horrible deal for the Pelicans.

  4. Call me crazy, but I really wouldn’t want Hawkins in this deal. Especially with Trey’s injuries this year, we need to keep some affordable shooting on the roster. 3 unprotected firsts + Jonas + Dyson (who both have value) should be enough for Markkanen. I’d add in Kira and a 2nd if needed to get it done.

  5. Our new 5 would need to be a great rebounder. Olynyk can technically be a stretch 5 which is literally the very best thing next to Z, but JV still clears him so easily

  6. This will probably get downvoted but (ignoring trading hawk, who I would try to keep out of it) I would love to see a lineup of CJ Herb BI Zion and Lauri, Lauri averages 8 rebounds a game and I think putting in a guy who spaces the floor would put pressure on z and the team to rebound more. It would also allow us to play four guys on the perimeter and have z around the ft line rather than the 3pt line and act as a screener or in pnr action, or let him go to work. Also that would mean you have 3 guys who are close to 40% shooters and 2 who are great mid range shooters and maximise minimise herbs weaknesses. Then having Kelly on the bench we could either run him instead of Larry off the bench if we need offence or we could run both Larry and olynck for some shenanigans

  7. Counter scenario: extend JV for two more seasons at a reasonable deal and ride with the affordable JV/Nance combo at the 5

  8. Honestly I’d rather do a smaller trade just for Olynyk. Lauri is great but the team is just figuring out how to get everyone involved, I think it would be tough to integrate another high usage player

  9. Lauri plays the 3/4 for Utah was a 3 in CLE and a 4 in Chicago. I don’t think giving up all those assets to make Lauri our starting 5 is a smart move. I will stick to my old way of thinking and never make a trade with Danny Ainge.

  10. I wouldnt make the move unless it was CJ instead of JV.

Play huge, keep your stopper in the starting 5, and don’t sacrifice shooting or rebounding

  11. This ain’t it. Maybe we should consolidate players but Hawk definitely shouldn’t be involved in that. Keep the picks and continually develop players. Also extend JV on a team friendly deal if possible. He’s held down center on a top 10 defense 2 seasons in a row. Hopefully he can continue to agree gracefully.

  12. That’s a lot of assets for 1.5 year player (Lauri) – 5 first. Dyson and Hawkin are hella cheap cus of their rookie contract, plus the 3 future picks. BI and Trey’s contract is up in 1.5 as well. No way we can afford all them plus Zion’s current.

Dyson is CJ backup. No way we can run GTA heavy minutes, especially in the playoffs.

Hawkins is still unknown. He has shown some flashes but then sometimes he’s a poor man’s Cam Johnson.

Kelly O is slight taller Nance. I like him but he is due for a new contract next year so JV situation is the same.

I rather find a cheaper center via draft or trade.

All in all, for this year, it’s a sideways move. It’ll get us past some teams but we won’t be able to beat others.

On top of all of this, I don’t trust Danny Ainge.

  13. It sounds good and our team on paper is undoubtedly better but Willie struggles to get bi cj and Zion involved at all times I can’t imagine how much of a poor job he will do adding Laurie into the equation . I really value Laurie tho…

  14. Definitely not doing this. It’s highly likely Markannan walks as soon as his contract is up. Also we are having problems finding PT for TM3. How are we going to find PT for Markannan? He is not a center. The Bulls tried him at center before and he failed miserably.

  15. So we’d lose our starting center, 3 first round draft picks, and 2 guys we drafted in the first round. And we’d get back a forward when we have depth at that position already.

    Terrible
